hardware&security Fitting solutions for safety and security »»Security hardware solutions have been a long-standing mainstay of Carl F Groupco’s hardware portfolio. In at report prepared for Clearview, the established distributor of fittings to the door and window industries provides an overview of the products it supplies that tick all the right boxes for safety and security. Own Brand Innovation As one of the leading UK hardware suppliers, Carl F Groupco has pioneered a number of own brand products alongside market leading hardware solutions from renowned manufacturers. The CFGLock+ was launched in November 2013. The Cable Restrictor, which meets CE test standards, is designed to increase safety by restricting the opening of a window to reduce the risk of accidental falls. A key lockable variant is supplied as standard, with a push button option available to order. Another Carl F Groupco own brand line is the CFG3* cylinder. The Kitemarked, Secured by Design product provides complete 3 Star accreditation to achieve TS 007 and PAS 24 for security – as a result, the cylinder can be used with any standard handle and still achieve TS 007. The product supports Carl F Groupco’s established, standard CFG Profile cylinder. Flagship Favourites Manufacturers such as FUHR are established providers of standard, secure locking systems to Carl F Groupco. The German manufacturer with a strong reputation for robust, reliable and innovative solutions offers high quality products that have a long history of meeting security requirements. 60 » F EB 2015 » CL EARVI E W- UK . C O M CE marked emergency exit gearing from FUHR, supplied by Carl F Groupco The ‘856’ Type 3 PAS 24 and Secured by Design lever operated door lock for single hinged and French residential doors is one of the most popular FUHR products distributed by Carl F Groupco. The Type 3 product, that is a firm favourite with Carl F Groupco’s customers, meets a need for secure locking. FUHR also addresses safety issues with an emergency exit and panic door hardware range for PVC, timber and aluminium profiles. The CE marked 870 and 871 multipoint locking systems have been designed to meet the stringent requirements of EN1125 (for panic exit) and EN179 (for emergency exit) when fitted as part of the approved hardware set. To comply with relevant safety standards, the 870 and 871 must be fitted with the tested CES free movement cylinder and the FUHR panic bar, both available from Carl F Groupco. The 870 is a key operated lock with optional fixed knob handle to allow outside access. The 871 lever operated lock also from FUHR is suitable for doors that are in regular use, can be fitted with an external lever to allow access from outside and can then be locked to secure the door when access isn’t required. From the inside, both the 870 and 871 can be opened at any time to provide an emergency or panic exit, with options for outside access. Slave locking is also available for this range: running behind the false mullion, it can be used alongside either the 870 or 871, depending on requirements. Shootbolt extensions are added to the centre section providing security on the slave leaf. Long-standing Lines Other long-term hardware favourites supplied by Carl F Groupco, that are popular for meeting safety and security requirements, include the Caldwell folding opener series which gives secure, controlled opening for low and high level windows. Figures confirm that the folding openers have sold well, even through the challenging recessionary periods, particularly to the education sector, with peak sales identified immediately prior to school holidays. Safety benefits provided as a result of the opener’s ability to restrict openings are seen as a large part of the product’s appeal. Other markets supported include those sectors that seek particular safety assurances such as hospitals, offices, sheltered housing and hotels. Carl F Groupco reports that safety and security have been a prime requirement for selection of its hardware portfolio throughout its history. In partnership with leading manufacturers, and through investment in own brand ranges, these issues will continue to be supported by the established fittings supplier with high quality, innovative, value for money solutions.
