‘Rocks’ and
Role Models
Reynaers’ MD Richard Hall talks
about his journey to his new job,
day-to-day to-dos and the local
business peers he admires…
When did you join the company?
I joined Reynaers as Managing Director
for the UK subsidiary of the business in July
2018, following 22 years’ experience in sales,
marketing, engineering and supply chain roles.
I joined from Schaeffler, where I had held
board positions for over 12 years, leading both
across the automotive and industrial sides of
the business in the UK and Ireland.
Describe your working day...
Every day is different depending on whether
I’m in the Reynaers UK headquarters in
Birmingham or visiting customers. Either
way I pride myself on staying focused on the
business priorities – we call them the ‘Rocks’.
No two weeks are the same, but there are
a few things in my schedule that remain
a ‘must’. Every Monday at 2pm, I hold a
management meeting where we discuss
company progress, issues and upcoming
activities. This sets us up nicely for the week
ahead.
I also make a point of going out to meet
our customers face-to-face two days a week to
ensure I continuously get a temperature check
of the market. On the days when I am office
based, I like to spend time catching up with
colleagues on the most important topics.
What is your workspace like?
The Reynaers office is a modern and fresh-
looking facility that the team moved into in
2017 after a number of years of continuous
growth. The best part of the business is our
Knowledge Centre, designed with our partners
in mind. The dedicated showroom features
Reynaers’ commercial, trade and high-end
domestic products, as well as a brand-new
Training Centre which includes an installation
rig designed for development, training and
testing.

First thing you do when you
get back to your desk?
First thing I do is plan my day. It is so
important that I list priorities from the ‘To Do’
list. Throughout the day when coming back
to my desk I always give myself 15 minutes to
respond to any emails that have come in.
What websites help you?
I check the Financial Times website every
day to stay up to date with key market topics
and trends.
Most useful business tool?
It has to be my iPhones. I have two – one
for business use and one for personal. Both
help me stay engaged and organised.

to meet our customers face-
to-face two days a week’
Best business decision in
your current role?
Together with my leadership team, I have
implemented a new business operating system
to keep everyone within Reynaers focused on
the most important topics. Joining Reynaers
was one of the best career decisions I have
made. I was particularly attracted to the role
due to the company’s strong focus on product
leadership and emphasis on fostering sound
customer relationships.
Favourite role models and why?
I am part of a West Midlands business
leaders’ group where I meet with local peers I
admire. The group acts as a fantastic sounding
board and source of useful advice, which is
always important.
How do you unwind?
I am an Aston Villa fan and season ticket
holder meaning I can unwind at the home
games with my two sons. I also try to get to
the gym two to three times a week, which I
find a useful way to switch off too.
