Magnificent seven achieve management BTEC
» » AS PART OF CONTINUING
Professional Development at Carl F Groupco,
the management team undertook a BTEC
course in the Principles of Leadership and
Management and the Principles of Managing
Performance. All seven of the company’s
managers successfully completed the
coursework and sat an exam to achieve BTEC
certification.
The course, which addressed key management
issues, principles and legal matters, was part
of Carl F Groupco’s ongoing commitment
to training: the department heads gained
additional management expertise to assist them
in their daily dealings with team members.
One of the main benefits to the company
of all its managers receiving the education and
instruction has been harmonisation across the
organisation. Management skills have also
been developed that support a new on-line
appraisal system that is used on an ongoing
basis and accessed by both the managers and
their team members.
Non-certified professional management
training has also been provided to three
Carl F Groupco supervisors, this included
Management Principles, Appraisals, Managing
people and Good Documentation.

STORM CALLUM MAKES APPEARANCE
AT ‘TURF MOOR SLEEPOUT’
» » A WET AND WINDY
October evening saw three VEKA
Group Directors take part in the
first ever charity Sleepout event
held at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor
ground.
The event raised £28,000
for the three charities involved;
Burnley FC in the Community,
Emmaus Burnley and Jane’s
Place, with £3,714 of that
coming directly from VEKA
sponsorship.
Around 50 people took part,
to raise awareness and funds, by
bedding down in front of the Bob
Lord Stand with only a sleeping
bag and a piece of cardboard for
comfort. Amongst those were
VEKA Group Marketing Director
Dawn Stockell, Sales Director
Neil Evans and Finance Director
Graham Fitton.
Dawn said: “The weather was
horrendous on the day of the
Sleepout, but rather than call

it off or postpone the event,
everyone was determined to
make it happen. I think the wild
conditions, due to Storm Callum,
actually made the whole event
even more poignant, considering
that we were doing it to support
vulnerable people and victims
of homelessness in Burnley. For
us it was only one night, but
many people must sleep out in
all weathers every night of the
year.”
