»»
WINLOCK SECURITY, THE UK’ S only window handle manufacturer, has launched an innovative new service for its UK customers; a free Document Q accreditation system. This provision allows fabricators and installers to use Winlock’ s test reports free of charge with immediate effect.
Document Q refers to an appendix to The Building Regulations which comes fully into effect from October 1st 2016. It requires that all ground floor or accessible doors and windows on new build residential dwellings are made to a design that has been independently tested to the latest security standard( PAS024).
‘ use Winlock’ s test reports free of charge with immediate effect’
The impact of this new regulation for fabricators, is that they must have independent testing for their doors and windows – a process that can take up to 12 months- in place by October 1st 2016, in order for them to continue to supply the new build market.
Winlock Security’ s testing programme covers outward opening casements, single doors, French doors, composite doors and flush sash windows. Profiles covered to date include; Veka / Halo, Liniar, Deceuninck, Synseal, Eurocell, Swish and the new Profile 22 Optima system.
Winlock Security is now making this UKAS accredited test data available to fabricators free of charge.

A very big little business
»»
MANY YEARS AGO, A FLEDGLING trade fabricator called Glazerite began to grow, firstly by giving its small customers the kind of service that others only gave to their big accounts. But then, and more uniquely, it went on growing by remaining loyal to those same small customers even after the much bigger ones started to sign up.
Now, as a result, some of those small customers are doing very big things, still with the support of what is now The Glazerite UK Group Ltd, and there could be no better example than Aylesbury-based Goldseal Conservatories Limited. Comprising only
Gary Copp with son Rhys and their friend Adam as fitters, the company has a portfolio of some very enviable installations worth as much as £ 60,000 per household, with no salespeople, no advertising and no promotions – and business has never been better.
Gary explained:“ Glazerite has built itself by working with small companies like us that need to keep a level of service and trust in everything we do. If I ring and say a frame has arrived damaged, they will take my word and get a replacement out to me straight away.”

GAMING MARATHON RAISES £ 550 FOR MACMILLAN
»»
TWO MEMBERS OF STAFF FROM Hurst Plastics recently took part in a novel‘ marathon’ to raise more than £ 500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Marketing Communications Manager, Steve Daniels, and Jon Holmes from IT Support ditched sleep for playstation pads when they organised a 24-hour gaming marathon to support the charity.
Steve and Jon were joined by three more gaming enthusiasts for their mammoth gaming session, which was held at Hurst’ s headquarters in Kingston-upon-Hull. They played some of the most popular games and livestreamed their video game play to compete with international gamers from all over the world. The team, known as‘ the salty knights’, has already raised £ 550 for Macmillan, with more donations yet to come.
Steve Daniels said:“ I wanted to do something to raise money for Macmillan but a conventional 26-mile marathon just didn’ t appeal. The 24-hour gaming session was perfect as I’ m a big gaming addict. It was great to form a team of fellow gaming fans for the fundraiser and to play in real-time with gamers from across the globe. The sleep deprivation was tough, but it was well worth it to raise money for a fantastic charity.”
