A futuristic contribution
to FIT Show
» » UNTIL RECENTLY, GADGETS
and gismos have been reserved for the likes
of 007, Batman and Agent J and it was only
those with such levels of superhero-esque
ability and profile with which anything
remotely technological could be entrusted.
More recently these, once seemingly
futuristic, tools have become commonplace
in our shopping carts (virtual, of course).
We as consumers now have the power of
technology’s advances in our hands, and our
homes, and we’re relying on them to keep us
connected and safe, more than ever.
According to a recent PwC survey,
£10.8bn will be spent on smart home devices
in 2019 with 30% of people planning to buy a
smart device for their home in the next two
years. Smart technology increasingly controls
our heating, lighting, and appliances, and now
thanks to manufacturer Mighton, our front
doors.
Avia is Mighton’s most innovative product
to date, and a new challenger into the smart
lock system arena. Controllable from iPads,
iPhones, Apple watches, keypads and fobs,
Avia is the first Apple HomeKit smart home
security system to work with multipoint
locking door units. The benefits Avia brings
to the market are boundless; Secured by
Design (SBD) certified ATK TS007 3-star
security cylinder, activity audit trail and
meeting PAS 24:2016 requirements, simple
installation, an anti-tamper alarm, and
weather proof components are just some
of the headline features ticking all the right
boxes to proudly place this exquisite piece
of ironmongery alongside its twenty-first
century competitors.
It’s important to note that Avia is an actual
locking system as well as an intruder alert
mechanism, whereas many other products
on the market are simply the latter. Avia can
be used with existing outside door handles
or provided with an SBD certified external

security handle created by Mighton’s chosen
UK trade distributor Mila.
Mike Derham is Chairman at Mighton and
will be taking Avia to the industry’s FIT Show
in May:
“Avia has been a long time coming, not
only in its development, but also in ensuring
that we have a functional product which
is simple to install and works seamlessly
alongside Apple HomeKit technology. We’re
pleased to be exhibiting alongside Mila, who
are market leaders in door hardware such
as this.”
This year’s show promises to bring some
of the biggest fenestration and glazing names
to the NEC between 21 and 23 May, with
an enormous variety of smart technology
products on offer.
Mike continues: “Statistics from the start
of 2018 state that there are 1.3 billion active
Apple devices. Every single person who
walks past our stand will have a property
they want to keep secure and a family they
want to be safe. It’s our job to show them
why Avia should be their first choice. As
the popularity of smart home technology
grows, so does concern over security and
data harvesting. The majority of articles
discussing the upsurge in using these types
Mike Derham, Chairman
of systems inevitably address consumer
protection, or at the very least question it, as
part and parcel. Avia’s military-grade 256-bit
encryption software successfully protects the
unit from hacking attempts and the fact that
it’s installed on the inside of the door unit
also helps to avoid the device being targeted
by would-be burglars, as no one will even
know the home has a smart lock installed.
Excitingly, Mighton’s range of home tech is
only in its infancy. We are already exploring
additional product options to include
within the range, all of which we anticipate
synchronising with the Apple HomeKit.”
