DOORS&WINDOWS New CNC Machining Centre Increases Composite Production Capacity increased with £3m investment »»One of the UK’s largest fabricators, Wellingborough based Astraseal, has significantly increased its manufacturing capabilities with a £3m investment. Over the past 18 months Astraseal has invested in a new Tamglas toughening plant, a Stuga machining centre, a five headed welder, a bead saw, an aluminium saw, and a crimper. Astraseal has also expanded its logistical division, adding an additional 12 ton and 18 ton lorry to its fleet of 80 vehicles. Mark McMullan, Managing Director of Astraseal, comments, “The investment increases our capacity to over 4,000 frames per week and is part of a strategic move to put more resources into our trade supply division. We’ve been experiencing increasing demand from the trade and scaling up the business means we can continue to fulfil large commercial contracts and provide installers with the kind of quality and service they have come to expect from Astraseal. We welcome any installers who would like a factory tour to see the new machinery in action and to discuss how Astraseal can help their business grow.” Astraseal operates from three manufacturing sites, totalling 110,000 square feet. C O M »»Hurst Plastics is well on course for its best year ever in composite doors after making a significant investment into new machinery and additional production space to satisfy growing demand. The Kingston-upon-Hull based company has almost doubled its dedicated floor space for composite door processing and has just taken delivery of an additional CNC machine to increase production capacity to 600 doors a week. Hurst is one of the first companies in the industry to commission the Biesse Rover A 5-axis machining centre, an upgraded 2015 model. The Rover A is able to machine from a vertical or horizontal axis to ensure precise routing to within a millimetre, whilst minimising manual handling for Hurst’s production team. More energy efficient and quieter in operation, the new machine will speed up the processing of Hurst’s range of standard composites and composite fire doors to between 7 and 10 minutes per slab. The router is linked to a sophisticated software programme to accurately manage and plan throughput, either on-site or remotely.
