REVERSE THINKING - NEW FULLY
REVERSIBLE WINDOW LAUNCHED
Spectus Window Systems is asking the
industry to reverse its thinking with the
launch of its new fully reversible window.
Easy-to-clean and thermally efficient the fully
reversible window works with a 180 degree
pivot action to give users safe and easy access to
the outer pane. Its Deep Bevelled 70mm profile
integrates with Spectus’ Elite 70 suite giving
fabricators and installers complete compatibility.
The company’s new ‘Aeroframe’ thermal
barrier technology has been incorporated into
the five chamber profiles giving improved thermal
performance. With a U-Value of 0.8 the fully reversible window
can achieve the highest possible A+ rating under the Window Energy
Ratings scheme when glazed with argon filled double glazed units;
while the option to incorporate second or third weather seals further
aids thermal efficiency.
Holding the enhanced security accreditation, PAS: 24:2012 the fully
reversible window gives peace of mind to both installers and the enduser. It also forms part of Spectus’ BES6001 accredited system, giving
additional points under the threatened Code for Sustainable Homes or
BREEAM.
With unit options in 24mm, 28mm, 40mm and 44mm; plus a choice
of finishes, including coloured and wood grain effects.

NEW UK MAP OF BOGUS
‘ELF AND SAFETY EXCUSES
Londoners report most ‘jobsworth’
decisions to myth buster panel – with Scots
and Welsh at other end of league table.
More people in London and the South East
have reported ill-founded health and safety
excuses than any other part of the UK, new
analysis shows.
Britain’s workplace safety regulator, the Health
and Safety Executive, has analysed the national
spread of all reports to the popular Myth
Busters Challenge Panel – set up to clamp
down on bogus health and safety excuses.
The results show that more people report that
they’re told “sorry, can’t do that because of ‘elf
and safety’” in the capital and the South East
than anywhere else – with more than fifty cases
reported over the past year.
The results also show:
• Yorkshire has the second worst reporting rate
for absurd edicts – with 22 complaints; and
• Wales and the Highlands of Scotland have
received the least number of complaints
about ‘elf and safety excuses.
Minister for Health and Safety Mike
Penning said: “Health and Safety regulations
save lives – but bogus excuses do nothing
more than throw a spanner in the works of
otherwise sensible activity.
Anyone who suspects a case of ‘health and
safety madness’ can contact the independent

SKILLS MINISTER ISSUES CHALLENGE
TO YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS
Skills Minister Matthew
Hancock has launched a
challenge to teenagers to think
more about starting their own
business.
70
JAN 2014
The minister, working with social
enterprise group MyKindaCrowd,
called on young people to raise
their aspirations and consider
going into business for themselves
when they leave school.
Matthew Hancock said, “Setting
up a business on your own can be
a great start. We want to encourage
young people towards enterprise.
“So I am challenging teenagers
to think of new ways schools,
colleges, employers and the
government can inspire more
young people to become the
entrepreneurs of the future.
He added, “The best motivation
and advice tends to come from
people in jobs themselves.
“So I want to see more employers
and business leaders getting
involved with schools and colleges
to motivate young people about
the world of work.”
Will Akerman, MyKindaCrowd
CEO, said, “The key to creating
our future workforce lies in giving
young people the opportunity to
learn practical skills and experience
that are relevant for business. We
want to bring together businesses
and education establishments to
provide opportunities for all young
people.”
