SETTING THE STANDARD FOR FIRE DOOR SUPPLY
With fire safety remaining firmly under the spotlight, contractors and installers need more than simply a compliant door set. They need confidence in the manufacturer behind it, clear certification and traceability, proven performance and, increasingly, a level of service that can be tailored around the requirements of individual projects.
For Astraseal, this has driven continued investment in its fire door range, testing programme and supporting services, creating a comprehensive offering that extends from supply-only through to a complete survey, supply and installation package.
First to Achieve BM TRADA STD170
Astraseal has been developing and manufacturing fire-rated solutions for a number of years and, in 2020, became the first UK manufacturer to achieve thirdparty certification under the BM TRADA STD170 scheme for its composite fire doors.
The certification marked an important milestone for the Northamptonshirebased manufacturer and demonstrated its commitment to independently tested, third-party certified products.
Since then, Astraseal has continued to develop its range, investing in further testing to expand the options available to customers while maintaining the performance and integrity of the complete door set.
Its current FD30 fire door range includes a choice of solid and glazed designs, together with options for firerated top lights and side lights. A variety of colours, glazing, hardware and locking options are also available, allowing contractors and specifiers to meet differing project requirements from a single manufacturer.
Alongside fire performance, security remains a key consideration. Astraseal’ s fire doors are independently tested to PAS 24, combining the requirements of a firerated door set with the enhanced security expected from an external entrance door.
Testing Beyond the Minimum
Ongoing testing remains central to the development of Astraseal’ s fire door range.
Rather than viewing certification as the end of the process, the company continues to test different door set configurations, components and glazing arrangements to provide customers with greater flexibility and confidence.
This continued programme of testing is particularly important as customers look for a broader choice of compliant solutions. From solid and glazed doors through to configurations incorporating surrounding glazing, Astraseal is continually working to expand the options available while ensuring each solution is backed by appropriate test evidence and certification.
Supply Only or Complete Project Support
While product performance is essential, Astraseal also recognises that customers require different levels of support.
Its fire door service has therefore been structured around flexible packages, allowing customers to choose the level of involvement they need.
For qualifying contractors and installers, Astraseal offers a supply-only service, providing access to its certified fire door range while allowing customers to retain control of installation.
The supply-only package goes beyond simply delivery. Astraseal can provide the appropriate tested installation materials, including specified sealants, foams, packers and fixings, helping installers work with the correct components required for the system.
For customers requiring greater project support, Astraseal also provides a comprehensive survey, supply, installation programme and maintenance package. This gives clients a single partner throughout the process, with Astraseal able to manage the project from the initial survey and specification through to manufacture and installation.
Installation is undertaken by appropriately trained teams and supported by the necessary quality assurance and traceability documentation, providing a clear record of the completed works.
The result is a flexible approach that allows Astraseal to work with everyone from experienced installers looking for
a reliable supply partner to contractors requiring a complete managed solution.
One Partner, Every Solution
Established in 1979, Astraseal has more than 45 years of manufacturing experience, with extensive in-house uPVC and aluminium glazing production capabilities across its Northamptonshire manufacturing sites.
That manufacturing expertise, combined with its technical knowledge and continued investment in testing, allows the company to offer far more than a standard fire door supply service.
For customers, it means dealing directly with the manufacturer, with technical support available throughout the project and a choice of service packages that can be adapted around individual requirements.
As expectations surrounding fire door performance, evidence and accountability continue to increase, Astraseal believes manufacturers have an important role to play in providing both the products and the supporting expertise the industry needs.
