A True Timber Alternative: A Practical Solution for Installers and Homeowners
As interest in heritage-style windows continues to grow, installers are increasingly being asked to balance traditional looks with modern performance. Homeowners want character and authenticity, but without the upkeep that comes with timber.
Here, Sunny Singh, CWC Managing Director discusses how he finds systems that deliver on appearance while remaining straightforward to manufacture, install and support.
This is the space Chigwell Window Centre PLC( CWC) is addressing with its LAYLA Flush Fit Timber Weld system. Part of the Chigwell Group PLC, Chigwell Window Centre PLC has spent more than 20 years supplying glazing solutions to residential and commercial projects across London and the South East. Over that time, the business has built its reputation on aluminium and A-rated PVCu products, backed by a consistent level of service and technical support. As Sunny Singh of CWC explains, the company’ s focus has always been on providing“ a smooth process via a perfect combination of premium products and outstanding service,” ensuring customers feel confident not only in the product, but in the people behind it.
Developed in partnership with REHAU, LAYLA brings together two well-established names in the fenestration industry. REHAU’ s role as a global leader in polymer solutions is well recognised, and its profile technology forms the foundation of the system. Combined with CWC’ s understanding of installer and homeowner expectations, the result is a timber-style solution designed to work in the real world.
What sets LAYLA apart is its timber-welded joint. By replicating the jointing method found in traditional timber windows, the system removes the mitred corner that typically gives PVCu away. For homeowners, this delivers a far more authentic appearance. For installers, it creates an opportunity to offer a credible
alternative to timber on period properties, conservation-style homes and projects where aesthetics are a priority.
The flush-fit design allows the opening sash to sit neatly within the outer frame, reinforcing the traditional look. Subtle external chamfering softens the lines, while low-level sightlines are achieved using REHAU bead technology. Optional Georgian bars further support heritage-style specifications, with chamfered external finishes and sculptured internal detailing.
From a practical perspective, LAYLA has been designed to integrate easily into existing workflows. Available in both REHAU TOTAL70 chamfered and sculptured frame options, the system remains compatible with the familiar TOTAL70 platform. As Sunny Singh notes, LAYLA“ combines the realistic look and feel of timber with all the benefits of PVCu,” offering long-term durability without the ongoing maintenance timber requires.
The range extends beyond windows to provide a complete, coordinated solution. The LAYLA Flush Fit Timber Weld French door mirrors the clean aesthetics of the window system, with slimmer sightlines and discreet hinge hardware helping to maintain visual consistency. Using REHAU’ s
Deep Bottom Rail system, installers can work with a familiar door sash, reducing complexity on site. The door achieves a WER‘ A’ rating and has been tested to PAS 24 at its maximum size.
Completing the range is the LAYLA Flush Fit Timber Weld residential door. Fully tested to PAS 24 and Secured by Design standards, it offers reassurance on security while supporting a consistent timber-style appearance across the home. A wide choice of laminate finishes— including Turner Oak, Anthracite Grey, Sage and Pebble Grey— allows the system to suit both traditional and contemporary settings.
For homeowners, LAYLA offers the look of timber with strong thermal performance, noise reduction and minimal maintenance. For installers, it provides a reliable, well-supported system that meets current demand without adding unnecessary complexity.
In many ways, LAYLA reflects Chigwell Window Centre PLC’ s wider approach: investing in quality products, working closely with trusted partners and focusing on solutions that genuinely work for the trade. It’ s a measured step forward, grounded in experience, and designed with both installers and homeowners firmly in mind.
