‘ Pioneering fire safety products for over 40 years’

Envirograf ® is a global leader in passive fire protection products, offering a comprehensive range of innovative British manufactured fire safety solutions, meeting the needs of clients across a wide range of sectors nationwide and beyond. Established in 1983, the company has been pioneering fire safety products that window providers and installers can rely on for over 40 years.

Managing Director, Derek Ward, who started the company, is now a spritely 93 years old and has no intention of retiring. Derek moved from London to Kent in 1958 and founded Envirograf in 1983, with its Barfrestone headquarters opening in 1994, the site now employs over 120 workers locally. Derek continues to work at the company’ s Kent HQ where manufacturing still takes place, often working six days a week!

Derek is particularly proud of his innovative fire resilient glazing products, with glass coatings and trims always of particular interest to the fenestration community.
Envirograf’ s Insuglass ® XYZ product consists of a clear coating and a clear protective
film to protect glass from fire damage and was originally developed for hospitals for application to wired clear fire glass to act as an insulator. In a fire the high temperature near the glass causes the XYZ coating to form an insulated barrier, blocking heat transfer from one side to the other. Crucially, this process applies whether the fire is on the coated side or not. XYZ has been tested at Chiltern / TRADA on wired clear glass, achieving 67 minutes integrity. XYZ is simple to install, without any need to remove existing glass, and is maintenance free – it is also environmentally friendly, being a water-based, nontoxic product, which is also non-flammable( of course)!
Envirograf’ s Product 116 for glazed panels is a protective
metal trim available in multiple finishes, with pre-fixed intumescent seals( which expand to form a protective coating when exposed to fire). This protector rail is designed to hold clear Georgian wire glass, laminated glass or ceramic fire rated glass in front of decorative glazed panels, thereby providing 30 to 60 minutes protection depending on the rating of the fire glass used – leaving any decorative glazed panel undisturbed and fully protected. Product 116 can also be supplied in curved sections, making it particularly suitable for arches. When fitted, the protector is necessarily unobtrusive and is often barely noticeable in situ.
Envirograf also produces its Product 77 fire rated intumescent strips to protect the edges of glazing in timber or metal doors and partitioning, in the form of 2mm-thick self-adhesive backing tape – these will even compress to 0.5mm without affecting its performance – providing 30 to 60 minutes of fire protection depending on variant. Their Product 79 intumescent-coated glazing beads for doors and screens are 2100mm long softwood or hardwood beads available in a range of finishes and can be painted or varnished, these also provide 30 to 60 minutes of fire protection depending on variant.
The company’ s comprehensive fire safety range also includes rigid plastic glazing channels with intumescent fire and acoustic protection
( Product 109) that provides 30 to 60 minutes of fire protection depending on variant, and even includes their in-house developed Envirofrax ® fire and vibration resistant non-intumescent high-temperature insulation glazing tape, for protecting fire rated glass in metal doors and windows, that provides up to 60 minutes fire protection.
Envirograf’ s extensive range of fire resilient products have been successfully applied to a considerable number of high-profile projects: from the new Canary Wharf Crossrail Station to historic Rochester Cathedral. With Envirograf passive fire protection products, you have the peace of mind that comes from using proven dependable fire safety products.
