A smart security first

Quickslide debuted its new Legacy Protect system at FIT Show, a next generation smart security solution and a first for vertical sliding sash windows.

Recent reports have revealed that smart home technology is on the rise in the UK, with 39 % of households now using at least one smart device.

By 2027, that figure is expected to exceed 50 %. While much of this adoption has been focused on entertainment and convenience – think smart speakers, TVs, lighting, and heating – security is now also starting to gain traction.
Since 2023, the use of smart home security systems has increased by 20 %, driven largely by the surge in video doorbell installations. This growing trend highlights a broader shift, particularly among younger homeowners, toward integrating smart technology into every corner of the home.
It’ s a shift that Ben Weber, managing director of Quickslide, has been watching closely. At this year’ s FIT Show, Quickslide introduced Legacy Protect, a first-of-its-kind intelligent alerting system for the market leading Legacy VS that has been developed in collaboration with Kubu.
“ The adoption of smart-enabled technology for windows and doors may have been slower compared to other sectors,” Ben explains.“ But that’ s understandable when you consider that the security of our homes is such a priority, and that generations of homeowners have relied on traditional methods of securing their property for so long.
“ Now that smart tech is becoming more mainstream however, especially among younger demographics, the data indicates that smart security for fenestration products will eventually catch up.”
Legacy Protect is a discreet, multi-sensor system built directly into the upper sash and outer frame, as well as the lower sash and cill. The sensors are designed to detect unusual movement, such as forced entry or tampering.
At the FIT Show, a live demonstration of the system showcased its effectiveness – flashing lights and alarms were triggered
in response to simulated interference, leaving a strong impression on attendees.
The system is also fully integrated with the Kubu app, which allows homeowners to remotely check the open or closed status of their windows, enhancing everyday peace of mind.
“ As with many of our innovations, we’ ve taken our time with Legacy Protect,” says Ben.“ We’ re confident in its performance and reliability, but before we roll it out more widely, we’ re engaging with our installer network to collaborate on the best approach to bring it to market in a way that benefits everyone.
“ The reaction at FIT was incredibly encouraging, and we’ re now focused on integrating it in a way that adds real value to the Legacy range.”
In addition to the exciting new Kubu technology, the latest generation of Quickslide’ s Legacy still leads the way as a modern, authentic alternative to a traditional timber sliding sash window.
That includes fully mechanical timber-look butt joints, a slim midrail, deep bottom rail and refined run-through sash horns as well as a comprehensive range of colours and foils.
These high-quality features are backed up by unrivalled marketing support, including a new presentation package, designed for installers to present to homeowners and one that has been billed by Quickslide as the‘ ultimate sales tool’.
It includes a 600 x 900mm Legacy sliding sash, in an easily transportable lightweight case – one that can be personalised with a company logo – and that also includes brochures, swatches, hardware options, glass samples … everything that’ s needed to‘ wow’ homeowner customers.
That is backed up by Legacy On-Screen, Quickslide’ s product configurator for installers’ websites. It allows homeowners to explore the product in their own time and make informed decisions – perfect in today’ s digital-first world. And because it’ s free of charge, it’ s really a no-brainer.
