FROM THE EDITOR

And then there were four …

“ In life, when doors open, we have no idea of the path on the other side. It takes courage to step through a door.” I read this quote by chance the same week we finally got to announce something we’ ve been working on( behind closed doors for several months).
» YOU MAY HAVE ALREADY READ THAT WE HAVE TAKEN on a new member of the Clearview Group – bringing our family of three; Clearview, Pro Installer and The Locksmith Journal, to a very fantastic four. We’ re thrilled to announce the acquisition of The Door Industry Journal, as Derek Hibbart heads to retirement.
This expansion marks an exciting step forward, not only for us, but for our readers and partners too. With it comes fresh perspectives, deeper industry coverage, and more ways to connect with the people who make this sector, and everything in it, so special.
And, isn’ t that what FIT’ s all about too? As the doors closed on this year’ s event( the fourth one I’ ve personally been to), it once again proved to be a hub of innovation, ideas, and energy. It’ s always fantastic to see the new products and services unveiled, many of which point toward a bright future for our industry. The conversations we had, on the stands, in the aisles, and over coffee,( okay beer) reminded us how much potential lies just beyond the next open door. You’ ll see the full review further in the magazine.
But, as new doors open, we must also acknowledge those that have closed. The past year has brought its fair share of challenges; businesses restructuring, some sadly leaving the market, and others adapting to tighter conditions. But through every setback, this sector always shows resilience – and dare I say, courage. Time and again, the industry finds a way not just to survive, but to evolve, innovate, and support one another.
This month also marks one of our favourite traditions: our annual Golf Day. Guess what, this year is number four( or should that be‘ fore’?)! This event is about more than a great day out on the green( though it’ s that too!). It’ s a chance to bring our customers and friends together, catch up face-to-face, and raise vital funds for charity. Stay tuned next month for the results.
‘ Stepping through the door’ perfectly captures the spirit of where we are as a team and as a magazine group. Sometimes, the most exciting chapters begin with the simple act of saying‘ yes’ to something new.
See you next time, Gemma

Endurance team has heart

» A TEAM FROM ACROSS the manufacturer of premium quality, technically innovative fenestration solutions- whose brands include Endurance ® Doors and Endurance ® Aluminium- held a now-annual walk on Saturday April 12th. They covered a 7.3 mile route from Market Rasen in Lincolnshire to the nearby village of Walesby and back again.
The walk, which has been staged since 2023, remembers Craig Sunderland, who worked within Endurance’ s production operations, and sadly lost his life to Young Sudden Cardiac Death( YSCD).
This rare medical condition can see normally fit and healthy individuals, aged under 35, suddenly and unexpectedly pass away due to an undiagnosed problem with their heart which has caused no prior symptoms.
As a tribute to Craig, the annual walk also raises money for The Beat Goes on 31 – a North Lincolnshire-based community group which fundraises on behalf of CRY( Cardiac Risk in the Young).
A specialist charity, CRY aims to prevent YSCD through a range of activities. This includes raising awareness of YSCD, funding specialist research and providing free cardiac health screening to people aged 14 to 35, such as electrocardiograms( ECGs) and echocardiogram( an ultrasound scan of the heart); not currently available through the NHS for this age group, unless patients present with specific symptoms.
CRY also supports young adults diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions as well as individuals and families who have been bereaved as a result of YSCD. This year, the annual Endurance walk successfully raised £ 632 for The Beat Goes On 31. This is sufficient to provide free heart screening appointments for 10 young people.
Sharleen Lawless, HR Director, at the Endurance ® group, said:“ Young Sudden Cardiac Death is the biggest cause of natural death for people in the UK aged between 14 and 35. Every week, it claims the lives of 12 young adults with around 80 % of those affected showing no prior symptoms. The Endurance ® team has first-hand experience of the devastating impact of YCSD and I am proud that they have turned the tragic loss of Craig into positive action.”
