Over £ 900 raised for Shine Charity

» COLLEAGUES FROM PRODUCTION Software Technology ( PST ) recently participated in a Step Challenge to help raise funds for Shine , a charity dedicated to providing specialist advice and support to those affected by Spina Bifida or Hydrocephalus .
Tom Perrin , Junior Developer at PST , shared his enthusiasm for the challenge : “ Participating in the Step Challenge was a fun experience . It was a great opportunity to get the whole team out together , walking during lunch breaks and encouraged
everyone to increase their daily steps ! It became a friendly competition as to who could get the most steps in and of course , it ’ s rewarding to know our efforts have raised funds for an important charity .”
The aim of the challenge was to walk a combined distance of 158 miles over two weeks , the equivalent to walking from PST ’ s Sheffield office to London ’ s Trafalgar Square . Amazingly , PST stepped up to the challenge and went even further , covering a total of 248 miles ( 575,145 steps ), the equivalent of walking from Sheffield to Trafalgar Square and then onto the Isle of Wight ! In doing so , they raised an incredible £ 900 , including gift aid , for charity .
Val Hogg , Regional Fundraiser ( North ) & Challenge Events Lead from Shine Charity added : “ We are very grateful to the team at PST for choosing to take on their step challenge to raise money for Shine ,
and we ’ d like to congratulate them all on completing it — well done ! Covering over 575,000 steps between them in two weeks is quite an achievement ! And thank you so much to the team for their amazing fundraising ! With gift aid they ’ ve raised over £ 900 , which will help us to provide specialist advice and support for babies , children , adults and families affected by spina bifida and / or hydrocephalus .”

New guide and CPD about the ‘ Golden Thread ’

» TITLED “ THE ‘ GOLDEN Thread ’: A Quick Guide ”, the guide explains what the concept means from early design stage through the construction phase and future building management , detailing their responsibilities and how they can ensure they comply . It is complemented by ASSA ABLOY ’ s new RIBA approved CPD on the topic , which educates industry professionals on the issues in detail .
Peter Ashworth , Director & Head of Specification & OEM at ASSA ABLOY , comments : “ The ‘ Golden Thread ’ is here to stay and only those who embrace it will prosper in the construction industry of the future . The RIBA accredited CPD along with the guide will help all those involved in new build construction understand
their responsibilities so they can ensure compliance and safety as outlined in the new Building Safety Act .”
The guide makes clear that all stakeholders in the build process have a unique set of responsibilities with regard to the ‘ Golden Thread ’, which derives from Dame Judith Hackitt ’ s ‘ Building a Safer Future ’ report , written in the wake of the Grenfell fire . These include ensuring that plans , specifications , and material choices are comprehensively documented and easily accessible ; documenting regulatory compliance information ; and considering the long-term implications of design decisions and materials used to ensure the ‘ Golden Thread ’ remains unbroken post-handover .
The document also introduces Openings Studio™ , ASSA ABLOY ’ s cloud-based , BIM plug-in tool for the creation , visualisation , modification and management of door openings . Helping to meet the challenges of the ‘ Golden Thread ’, Openings Studio , along with its linked user-friendly mobile app , enables all stakeholders to contribute to the digital record .
Each door logged in Openings Studio is automatically assigned a unique smart tag that can be affixed to the door , enabling direct access to details including installation , inspection and
service history . Additionally , the platform ensures all operational guides , such as technical data sheets and warranty information , can be stored in one place and is accessible at the click of a button .
