Three ’ s the magic number

» THEY SAY THAT THREE ’ S A CROWD BUT WE ’ VE ALWAYS preferred ‘ the more the merrier ’ approach to our magazines . This month , the term ‘ bumper issue ’ certainly applies as we ’ ve added not one , but two supplements to the main magazine ; thanks to Glazpart and VEKA . It seems an appropriate month for this magazine too , with Glazing Summit set to take place , there ’ s plenty to talk about up and down the supply chain , addressing important issues , holding debates and getting together to swap ideas – it ’ s exactly what we do at Clearview every month …
Three really is the magic number for us at Clearview HQ , with three titles to create and curate every month , and get them printed and published . We have a unique foothold in the industry too with Clearview , Pro Installer and The Locksmith Journal ( which celebrated its 100th issue in September !). Across these titles , we touch every stakeholder in the sector ’ s supply chain ; from the biggest systems house to the independent installer – and every supplier , fabricator , manufacturer in between .
We feel very privileged with the relationship we have with each and every reader ; from the director ’ s desk to our subscribers ’ doormats , pick up points in trade counters ; our magazines find their way into the right hands – which means your brand can too . And in those magazines , we make sure we cover all the topics and themes , bridging the gap between important events , inspiring collaboration and inciting conversation ; from new products to legislation updates , training and skills , movers and shakers ; across all systems too !
So , it ’ s no wonder one magazine doesn ’ t cut it some months , and October ’ s supplements really do supplement our own offering with some very special advice , news and information . Glazpart and VEKA represent some of the best our industry has to offer . From the profile and product innovation , to the service and support on offer . These ‘ mini ’ magazines showcase the companies ’ vision and values , customer relationships and partnership opportunities , internal culture and the result of the genuine hard work that goes into their own businesses and the growth of fenestration as a whole .
If you ’ d like to get involved with any of our magazines , get in touch . Like I say our attitude at Clearview is the more the merrier , and without further ado , I ’ ll let you catch up with this month ’ s magazines ( there ’ s three to get through after all …)
See you next time , Gemma
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

“ Significant failings have been exposed ”

» THE PUBLICATION OF part 2 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Report , has dominated the news in the construction sector recently , and with good reason . Significant failings have been exposed , not only with product compliance but also in the actual installed performance of materials compared to their design specification . As a result , the fenestration sector , now more than ever , will come under increasing scrutiny to show that not only do products meet the required standards as designed but also that the installed products also attain those standards at the point of installation and for their expected working life . The level of performance claimed by manufacturers must be demonstrable , not only at the initial type test stage , but on everyday production . Subtle differences in specification can make huge differences in performance values and whether those differences are being implemented for cost or process savings , they need to be investigated and tested to ensure that the performance level is not diminished below that which is the minimum acceptable .
The ‘ new look BFRC ’ was launched back in April , at the GGF ’ s spring conference , and since that time has been working hard behind the scenes to develop and strengthen our offering to ensure we continue to be the most trusted and widely recognised Testing and Product Certification
organisation for the performance of glazing , windows and doors . But this is about so much more than achieving a certain level of accreditation when your products are tested , it ’ s about consistently delivering on those performance standards with every product that is manufactured and ensuring those standards are maintained once installed .
The findings of the Grenfell report serve as a poignant and sobering reminder to all of us ; the impact of decisions we take . Failures in government regulation , poor supplier practices , and a lack of accountability , all contributed to this disaster . I believe we ’ re at a pivotal point , and greater focus will now be brought to bear on compliance , to ensure product performance “ as installed ” meets all of the claimed levels , in order to help prevent future disasters , and I really hope our industry is ready to embrace the increased scrutiny under which it will be placed .
Yours sincerely , Richard Sellman Managing Director , BFRC
