Sympathetic extension to Arts & Crafts style house in Portscatho , Cornwall
The extension incorporates a clever chimney window design which pays homage to the towering chimneys of the original house . A striking three-metre-high window floods the new master bathroom with natural light . This window is marine-grade glass engineered to withstand the high wind loads typical of the coastal environment .
Solar control coatings have been applied to the southwest-facing elevations , offering protection from the sun while maximising the home ’ s energy efficiency .
Bespoke craftsmanship is a hallmark of this project boasting an impressive glazed extension with a footprint of 9.3 x 5.1 metres housing a luxurious new master bedroom and bathroom suite and views out to the verdant surroundings .
The link between the existing structure and the new wing , which serves as the home ’ s new entrance , features ultra-slim sliding glass doors . With one fixed and two sliding panels , these three-metre-high glass doors offer seamless transitions from the inside to the rambling gardens and panoramic coastal views . This innovative design detail harmonises the new modern living space without compromising the historical integrity of the Arts & Crafts home .
Specialist glaziers IQ , in collaboration with contractors KPK , worked closely with Architects Coal Ltd . to achieve this sensitive renovation .
This newly extended coastal home is a shining example of how contemporary design can breathe new life into an architectural gem , creating a harmonious blend of old and new in one of Cornwall ’ s most picturesque locations .
