FROM THE EDITOR
Now with bonus features
» THE AUGUST ISSUE OF CLEARVIEW ALWAYS FEELS EXTRA special as one of the only trade magazines that publishes 12 editions a year . In fact , all three of our titles come out once a month , plus e-zines and newsletters weekly or fortnightly ( depending on the magazine ) so it ’ s fair to say we like to keep busy . But , judging by the content on our pages this month , you all like to keep busy too – so I ’ ll try not to take up too much of your time …
Across this ‘ bonus ’ magazine this month , we have some extra special features too . One that really serves to mark my time in fenestration ( which is relatively short in comparison to many , coming up to eight years ) is our bi-annual Aluminium Extra . The reason why this section is so special , is that when I first started at Clearview Group , ‘ Aluminium ’ had its own feature in every magazine , while ‘ Doors & Windows ’ was predominantly uPVC , combined with composite and a touch of timber . Now that aluminium has become so mainstream – where it was once the reserve of commercial or very grand designs – it is a mainstay in the ‘ Doors & Windows ’ chapter of Clearview each month and that is an important chapter in my time in the industry too .
Likewise Software & Technology . Eight years ago we may get one or two articles per month maximum that would fit into this category – while appealing to many of our readers – and now the topic has two of its own features every year , and you guessed it one is August . These extra special features don ’ t mean that we ignore the issues for the rest of the year of course , but it does give us the chance to shine the spotlight on certain areas of the sector and showcase the brands and businesses excelling .
Going the extra mile isn ’ t reserved to these features . On every page you ’ ll see how companies are working harder than ever to serve their customers and support their communities , ever-more considerate of the wider world and always seeking to improve the industry as a whole . Off the page , at Clearview HQ , we ’ re also working hard on some extra special supplements coming up later in the year – for fabricators and installers – and gearing up for a very busy Autumn .
In the meantime , and I say this with confidence as the sun streams into the office , I hope you enjoy this Summer issue of Clearview , and see you in September .
LETTER TO THE MEDIA
For those that know me well I am a forthright person and one that ’ s passionate about the industry . But it is an industry sector that has received its fair share of criticism over the years and there remains areas today where a greater degree of accuracy , transparency and honesty should prevail .
» THE ENERGY EFFIciency and respective U-values of windows and doors is under scrutiny and will be more so in the years to come as we look to combat climate change . So , my request is that we need to be honest in the presentation of product performance , as I ’ m seeing occurrences of product performance claims that are misleading at best , or worse still plainly false .
Window and door systems regardless of material need to be accurately presented to everyone and preferably stated with the type of glazing whenever possible . To mislead consumers or indeed the trade is wholly wrong when the vast majority of us are presenting consistent and accurate information as we do with WarmCore .
So please on behalf of the vast majority of us , be accurate , honest and truthful before we tarnish the reputation of the industry again and loose some of the important goodwill that has been built up in recent years .
Yours sincerely Mark Frain National Business Development Manager WarmCore
