Conservatories & Extensions

The roof , the whole roof and nothing but the roof … until now

There ’ s nothing better than starting the new year with a fresh focus at the top of the agenda . For installers looking to explore new conservatory and solid roof options – or even extend their business into extensions – the sky seems to be the limit for homeowners wanting bigger , brighter and lighter spaces in their homes . Clearview caught up with Ryan Hulme of Connaught Conservatories to find out more about the market for extensions , roofs and how installers can build their business in this area with much less reliance on builders than ever before …
From the top
“ Connaught Conservatories was set up in 2006 by my stepfather David Gallagher and I joined the business around 10 years ago , moving over from a large developer . We have a team of 17 in total , and some have been here since day one .
“ We ’ ve always focused on roofs ; conservatory roofs and solid roofs , plus roof lanterns . We ’ re an approved supplier for Ultraframe and we were one of the first Guardian fabricators in the country , when we first ‘ set up shop ’ 17 years ago .
“ Our typical customer will order one to three roofs a month , while a bigger client will require up to five glass roofs a week – and we operate nationally up to the Borders and down to North Essex , Norfolk and Bristol , across to Manchester , Liverpool and North Wales , and we have a lot of customers across the North East .”
Extending new ideas
“ There used to the view that a conservatory was a ‘ cheap extension ’ and of course that isn ’ t the case at all now . There ’ s certainly been a change of opinion and a change in the market , we think for the better .
“ For homeowners considering adding extra space to their home , they do now seem to think ‘ if I ’ m going to pay all that money , then I want it to look like an extension ’ and not a conservatory . In addition to this , we see more often that homeowners are considering the garden area more during extension – that ’ s to say that outdoor living is becoming as much a part of the process as physically adding onto the home too .”
