FROM THE EDITOR

Two-way glass

Hello , welcome to the first issue of Clearview 2024 , and a very happy new year to you all . We ’ re raring to go at Clearview HQ and it ’ s partly because this month ’ s magazine marks a favourite feature for us all – Annual Predictions . But , before you read what some of our industry ’ s top brands and businesses predict for the year ahead – it is now tradition for me to take a sneak peek back to see what we thought would be the main drivers and barriers for the last 12 months , and more importantly , were they correct ?

The highlights from January 2023 are absolutely spot on , as far as I ’ m concerned . Looking back and reading headlines such as : ‘ Value for money will define the market at all levels ’, ‘ Committed to improvements across the board ’, ‘ Clear objectives : to maintain and raise quality standards throughout the various sectors it represents ,’ ‘ Quality , innovation and marketing will matter more than ever ,’ and ‘ Maximising the value in feature-rich products ,’ but these were more than just catchy page openers .
Flicking further through the pages of the subsequent 2023 issues of Clearview , Pro Installer and our little sister The Locksmith Journal , that is exactly what we ’ ve seen companies do . Quality is a given now in the products for the most part , and it stands out when standards drop rather than the other way around . This , along with an almost-unanimous opinion that the race to the bottom does not work – when it comes to pricing – and should no longer be built into a business ( or marketing ) plan has seen businesses genuinely add value through alternative means , beyond the ‘ face value ’ of financial figures .
We ’ ve seen this through customer support and service , especially around the Part F and L regulations and revisions , plus future changes to legislation that are complex and complicated . Brands , businesses and bodies have looked to simplify what has been often described as a ‘ minefield ’ and work tirelessly to provide solutions and options to streamline the process ( even when the process isn ’ t clearly mapped out itself ). And we have seen constant improvement of internal culture in companies , looking after employees , championing the individual and fostering a work environment that thrives from the inside out – for the improvement of the whole industry .
This is innovation at its very best . Thinking in new ways , adapting to overcome challenges , learning from the past and looking to the future – so without further ado , what does the next 12 months have in store ?
See you next time , Gemma
