Switch on to switchable smart glass sales opportunities
Morley Glass has introduced a new switchable glass product which it believes will help installers unlock new sales potential with high-end customers . Managing Director , Ian Short , explains more .
If you haven ’ t come across switchable glass , or ‘ switchable smart glass ’ as it is sometimes referred to , chances are you will do fairly soon . It is the latest technology-driven privacy solution for windows and doors of all types which , until now , has been a very niche purchase , largely due to an often complicated supply chain and lengthy lead times – this has made sourcing for installers a bit of a headache .
Switchable glass has fantastic growth potential at the top end of the market because it matches the ambitions of customers who are actively seeking premium quality , technically advanced windows and doors – such as slimline aluminium systems and magnificent new door-sets .
And there is a growing demand in the commercial market too . Switchable glass is perfect for interior glass elements like partitions and doors that we typically see in offices , healthcare facilities , schools , colleges , universities , leisure facilities and hotels .
The reaction our new product received when it debuted at the FIT Show in May was incredible . The main reasons why I think it generated such strong interest are due to the time and resources we ’ ve invested in our own supply partnership – getting the right products and setting our business up in a way that makes pricing and sourcing the product very straightforward .

Privacy at the flick of a switch
Switchable glass works through an electrical current being passed through a thin film applied onto a pane of laminated glass – this changes from its opaque state when the power is off , to transparent when the electricity supply is switched on .
