It ’ s all news to me
Clearview becomes key press partner for industry programme
» NO MATTER HOW MANY MAGAZINES WE PRINT AND publish , when it comes to deadline day and getting all the articles and ads together into a page plan , there is still the same excitement ( mixed in with a healthy dose of anxiety ) every month .
And , as at Clearview HQ we now have even more magazines every month - our little sister The Locksmith Journal has recently grown to 12 books a year instead of six - and we publish 12 issues of both Clearview and Pro Installer throughout the year ( some titles combine July and August into one summer edition ), that ’ s 36 deadline days per year , a whole lot of excitement and yes , more than a healthy share of anxious moments to go with each one too .
This week , my ( unnecessary ) worry manifested in a dream that I was in a rowing boat race from London to Edinburgh , having to hand write this intro in a notebook at the finish line but I ’ d forgotten how to write .
Sometimes people may read my intro and think that ’ s the case anyway , but I always think that as long as you still worry about getting something right - it means you really still do care about it . I have no idea where the rowing part came from , but maybe it means that I still have a long way to go - and that ’ s good too ? Also my non-work excitement is building for taking a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in a few weeks .
You see , the good news about working in a small team is that you get to ( and have to ) participate in a lot more roles than you usually would than if you were a larger group of bigger departments and teams . The bad news is - well for me there isn ’ t any .
I wanted to work in magazines before I even knew I did . At school , ‘ projects ’ were my favourite thing to do . Now I know I was editing those projects as standalone magazines , crafting themes , laying out pages , building them into books of articles , information and fitting all the pieces of the puzzle together , just like we do 36 times a year here now .
Of course , I didn ’ t think my future ‘ projects ’ would be about doors , windows , roofs , hinges , trickle vents and smart locks but isn ’ t that just the beauty of life - and our industry - as so many people ‘ fall into fenestration ’.
So for me , every magazine is a dream come true , even if the dreams I have in the build up to each one make no sense at all .
