Council Building Transformed as Part of Thermal Upgrade Scheme
The installation of Sheerline ’ s Prestige windows and doors has helped Swale Borough Council improve its ’ thermal efficiency as part of its ’ cost and energy saving Thermal Upgrade Scheme . The project has been completed in conjunction with Swan Doors & Windows and Waller Associates .
One of the key objectives of the project was to improve the overall thermal efficiency and therefore lower the carbon footprint of the building . Targets such as this are gaining importance as businesses and organisations look to reduce their energy costs and the UK government works towards its ’ Net Zero Strategy . Taking place at Swale House , the council ’ s head office , the works were completed in stages to minimise disruption to employees and due to the large scope of the project . The key aim was to replace the existing windows , which were original to the offices ( built in 1984 ) and performed poorly as they were only single glazed .
The Sheerline system was recommended for the project because the company met the three specific requirements : a robust aluminium system , excellent thermal properties , and short lead times . Swan Doors & Windows fabricated and delivered all the windows for this project . To upgrade the appearance of the building , the council opted for Sheerline ’ s Prestige windows in Anthracite Grey ( RAL 7016 ). This contemporary colour choice is one of the most popular because of its versatility and ability to enhance the look of most properties or buildings .
Paul Ewart , Director , Swan Doors & Windows , commented : “ The Sheerline Prestige range of windows is a robust aluminium system with great thermal efficiency , which ultimately helps the planet and will save on energy costs for years to come .”
“ What we especially like about Sheerline ’ s products is the method of mechanically joining the profiles , the low U-values and the use of standard hardware ,” he added .
Waller Associates successfully won several project elements through a
competitive tender process , including the installation of the windows . The company installed anti-solar glass on every south-facing window to prevent glare and reflect sunlight , which is useful for those who work at a computer . This approach will also prevent the office from overheating during hot summer months .
A representative from Waller Associates commented : “ The council is extremely pleased with the new windows , and they look great . In addition , they have dramatically improved thermal efficiency , which means the heating will not be used as much – the benefit of this is lower energy costs in the future .”
This is the second time Sheerline , Swan Doors and Windows , and Wallers Associates have collaborated to transform a building in the South East . The companies previously worked together to transform a large grammar school in Kent .
Sheerline ’ s CEO , Roger Hartshorn , comments : “ The fact Sheerline was recommended and then selected for this project shows we ’ ve got the formula right . From the very beginning , we understood the need for a stylish , secure , yet thermally efficient aluminium system . But we also value our installer and fabricator partners and wanted to make life easier for them . The positive feedback from this project proves we ’ ve achieved this .”
“ It ’ s always a pleasure working with Swan Doors – as one of our trusted partners , we can depend on them to complete every job to a high standard . We look forward to working with them on many more successful projects in the future ,” he added .
