Steel-ing the show inside and out
Aluminium doors offer steel-look heritage styling combined with modern performance and quality . No wonder they ’ re proving so popular , writes Quickslide ’ s Managing Director Ben Weber .
The popularity of steel-look aluminium doors continues to grow . For a heritage , Art Deco , Scandi or industrial look , whatever your style , these doors add the wow factor and , what ’ s more , work inside as well as out .
It ’ s easy to see why internally this style works so well for modern life . At home , we don ’ t want to give up the benefits that made open plan living so popular – spacious , airy , with plenty of natural light – but we ’ ve discovered we ’ re missing some of the practicalities those smaller rooms gave us : in our ability to heat them efficiently , being able to close off noise and having dedicated spaces for multiple purposes , especially as our homes are often our hybrid work places now too .
Slimline heritage style doors and screening has become the homeowner ’ s option of choice to address these competing challenges . It ’ s a solution that offers the appealing combination of large glazed areas and slim frames , to really maximise light and space . Which is great domestically for zoning different living , eating and cooking areas , for example , but also works well for commercial use in offices and studios too .
Plus they look great . With the right finish , modern aluminium frames can appear virtually identical to steel ones , but with the added benefits of being lighter yet robust , and easier to maintain , as aluminium is far less likely to develop rust .

Available in a classic black finish , there ’ s also the option to include horizontal and vertical bars too .
For heritage and refurbishment projects with a requirement to replace old steel doors externally , Alitherm Heritage fits the bill beautifully . Available as single or double doors , all with slim sightlines , it comes with the options of classic or Art Deco hardware . Alitherm Heritage retains all the looks of traditional steel while incorporating the highest modern standards of performance , including Smart ’ s innovative polymide thermal break technology . This creates a barrier between the cold air outside and warm air inside , significantly reducing thermal transmittance .
From mid-August we ’ ll be offering a similar heritage look in a bi-fold , with the Visofold 1000 slim – with it comes slimmer sightlines and , a plus for installers , Quick- Glaze beads . These are simply tapped in on site , removing the need for time-consuming wedge gaskets and significantly reducing installation time .
Or there ’ s the versatile Indi-fold . The popularity of sliders seems to be on the rise again and looks to be catching up with bi-folds now . Indi-fold lets you have the best of both . Its revolutionary stack and slide door system is characterised by individual panels that not only slide independently but can also be opened outwards one by one .
