We hear about people ‘ falling into ’ our industry , and this is usually accompanied by the someone saying : ‘ once you ’ re in , you never get out ’. At Oakland Glass , this was certainly the case for their MD Amanda Falsey , who went from being their management accountant to now being managing director . Clearview caught up with Amanda , and previous Oakland MD Tina Moorhouse , to find out all about it …
» “ AMANDA FIRST CAME to stand in for our accountant , who had sadly passed away . Amanda came highly recommended to us ,” begins Tina . “ She worked with us for three years , just a few days a month .
“ When I first met Amanda , we just hit it off straight away . Amanda was coming in to provide us with our management accounts , budgets and strategic financial planning . Amanda offered practical , pragmatic , and helpful tips on how we could improve the accountancy side , but more importantly to me , she helped to develop my skills within the business and gave me tools on how to manage the team and make them accountable .
“ She helped us reach targets and milestones that we had never reached before and this was just from a few days a month . I wanted her to join permanently , but Amanda had to step away from Oakland Glass , as she had other commitments with the family business and her own accountancy business . I didn ’ t give up and we tried to poach her for about five years , but to cut a long story short , eventually she agreed !”
Amanda continues : “ Anyone who knows Tina , knows she will win you over with her positivity , passion and a desire to work with her .
“ I started my career as a Chartered Accountant and worked in practice for a number of years in the auditing department , before putting myself forward to take over the management accounts department and build up the services we offered and client base . I really enjoyed this side of accountancy , which focused on helping to support clients on a daily basis , and improve not only their personal skills , but also their business .
