No-one can deny that 2022 was a year of big changes . Some fear change – the unknown can
be unnerving – but others
|
embrace it . When it comes
to fenestration , change often
equals evolution . We adapt
to new regulation and adopt
new methods , for example . We
review our product offering to
reflect the changing trends
in homes and lifestyle . We
train and develop people and
processes for all of the above .
What does change mean for
publications in fenestration
though ? Let ’ s find out …
1 . OFFER SOME GUIDANCE
June 2022 was momentous for
our industry with the updated
Part L and Part F documents .
And , while trade associations
were battling with government ,
fabricators and manufacturers
set to work lowering U-values
and raising awareness of
products that already met the
criteria . Two words became a
hot topic in 2022 : trickle vent .
Just over six months later , this
issue is far from closed ; just like
one of those trickle vents . So , in
February , Clearview will publish
|
its second Industry Issues supplement
magazine to follow
up from the June building
regulations supplement .
|
2 . ALL SYSTEMS GO
Not so long ago , Clearview
separated aluminium into
its own monthly feature plus
four ‘ extra ’ special features
a year – anything ‘ Doors &
Windows ’ we assumed was
PVC-u . With the market share
much more balanced now ,
we have decided to also level
the playing field on our pages .
‘ Doors & Windows ’ will now
encompass all PVC-u , composite
, aluminium and timber
products , and in addition to
the quarterly Aluminium Extra ,
we will include two PVC-u Extra
features in 2023 to explore the
innovation and evolution of
this incredible profile .
3 . FIT FOR PURPOSE
It ’ s showtime again in May
as FIT Show celebrates its
10-year anniversary . The
official Clearview preview
begins in March , but we have
already seen information
from the organisers and
exhibitors released at the end
of 2022 . And , building on the
success of last year ’ s Glazing
Summit , we have also built in
a Glazing Summit preview in
our September issue , so stay
tuned for both to find out who ’ s
going where , what the main
topics will be and how to get
involved .
|
4 . BRAND ‘ NEW ’ HERITAGE
At Clearview , we predict
that timber will be big news
throughout 2023 . Homeowners
looking for high-end , bespoke
doors and windows , conservatories
and garden buildings ,
specifiers looking for something
different , and for authentic
heritage homes , sometimes
there is just no substitute for
this natural product . Look out
for Heritage & Timber in April
and October .
5 . INSIDE OUT DESIGN
Home trends such as the
industrial look – most notably
– have seen a lot more black
on the colour palette . A matt
black mixer tap here , a black
metal shelving unit there ,
‘ Downpipe ’ woodwork , even
whole rooms painted black .
And , when black is taking over
from grey on the inside of our
homes , the next step is for it
to creep out to the external
facades too . Watch out
Anthracite Grey .
6 . FABRICATING TALES
Throughout 2022 , and all
the changes that it brought ,
staying up-to-date with
everyone in the supply chain
has been essential . We like
to think we play an essential
role in this too ! As a magazine
|
group that also includes a
dedicated installer newspaper
– Pro Installer – we always
keep the fitter front and centre .
What about the fabricator and
manufacturer ? 2023 will see
the launch of our Fabricator
Focus feature , plus we are
adding Manufacturing to our
monthly Machinery section .
We can ’ t wait to see what you
make of it …
7 . ONWARDS & OUTWARDS
Following lockdown and
our changing home ( and
work lives ), Outdoor Living &
Garden Buildings became an
important part of our industry
and integral to the pages of
Clearview . Three years later
and the want and need to not
only find some extra space in
our homes – but make it extra
special too – doesn ’ t seem to
have slowed . You may even be
reading this from your home
office at the bottom of the
garden right now , and if you
aren ’ t , June ’ s special feature
will no doubt open your mind
to the idea .
