Hardware Extra

The Reality of Evolution

Rob Norman , Business Development Director at hardware manufacturer VBH , talks about the necessity of evolution in business , and the benefits that it brings to everyone in the supply chain .

It ’ s a fact of life that most things in life evolve . Some for the better and some not so , but not many things stay the same over time . It ’ s true to say that if you stand still , in reality you ’ re going backwards .

In our own industry , we ’ ve seen some massive evolution in the market in recent years .
From the depths of despair during lockdown , we , as an industry , collectively rose like a phoenix from the ashes to achieve record results in the second half of 2020 and all through 2021 . What goes up generally comes down , though , and we ’ re now facing a much-anticipated downturn .
It ’ s not fun , but we ’ ve all been there before so we just have to adapt ( or evolve ), and make the changes that will ensure that our companies remain healthy and fighting fit .
That could mean new staff , new products , new working practices and much more .
At VBH , we have done all of the above and more . Our new products have had a knock on effect on our Q-secure consumer security guarantee , which in itself has evolved over the years into a better version of its original self .
The headline evolution for end users and those clever
installers who use Q-secure to sell is that the top line compensation figure has risen from £ 3250 to £ 8000 . That certainly grabs the attention .
There have been many changes in the product mix that Q-secure Approved Manufacturers can choose to fit , too . The introduction of new hardware from both our own greenteQ range and from third party supply partners has meant that we can add even more choice to the guarantee .
We have recently added the greenteQ Invicta shootbolt and Securitas security window lock to the already wide choice of casement window locking systems . Patio door suppliers can now offer Q-secure approved inline sliding patio doors and lift / slide patio doors , thanks to the addition to the Approved Hardware list of our greenteQ Clearslide and ClearLIFT hardware systems .
We are proud that Q-secure is a multi-brand guarantee , so it is not just our own greenteQ products that are bolstering the
ranks of approved hardware that Q-secure fabricators can choose from . The AGB ArTech tilt and turn system is proving hugely popular and that is now approved for use on Q-secure approved windows ( in its PAS24 spec , of course ).
That said , we are very excited to be adding even more greenteQ options for casement windows and residential doors in the coming months . Products in the final phases of development all combine ease of use with the high levels of security that the market has come to expect from our greenteQ brand .
They will also give salespeople a few extra features to talk about with their potential customers , making a Q-secure approved installation even more of a ‘ no-brainer ’.
Clearview ’ s readers will hear more about these products towards the end of the year .
So evolution is the name of the game , and VBH have been busy evolving our products , services , procedures , staff and guarantees . By taking something that is already very good , and tweaking it here and there , we can make it even better .
You can do that too , in your fabrication or installation business . As hardware is such a major part of your finished product , a tweak to your hardware ( in the direction of VBH , of course ) could make a big difference to so many aspects of your company . This future-proofs our businesses by making us more attractive to deal with than our competitors .
