Kerb appeal made easy

Andy Matthews , head of sales at HOPPE ( UK ), explains how ARRONE ’ s new suited hardware range can help composite and PVC door manufacturers tap into the latest trends .

According to research from the Homeowners Alliance , two-thirds of home buyers have identified kerb appeal as an important factor when buying a home . Of those , over half identified a well-maintained and attractive front door as one of the key items that contributes to having a good kerb appeal .

Doors of the past Between 1801 and 1911 , the UK saw huge change with the population quadrupling from approximately 9 million to 36 million people , and the number of houses rising from 1.6 million to 7.6 million .
Properties built in this era can be identified by several features , including the location of the front door . Georgian properties usually have the front door in the middle of the façade whereas houses from the late Victorian period often have front doors set in deep recesses that lead to a narrow hallway .
The Georgians and Victorians also set the tone for most of the door furniture styles that are popular today .
The Industrial Revolution combined with the availability of different materials , led to the evolution of door handles from being purely functional to a decorative feature . Various designs were introduced to coordinate with the interior design trends of the time , with black and pewter , typically a darker shade of grey with a duller sheen , often being the hardware colour of choice .
Although lever handles became more widely used during the 1900s , there are many examples of door handle designs as early as the Tudor period .
Choosing hardware in materials and finishes that work with the period style of the property have become crucial factors in the overall personality of a door . But , this design-focussed approach should not compromise the performance and overall quality of the architectural ironmongery being specified for use on the door .
New finishes
The new suited range from ARRONE , a HOPPE brand , has been designed to help door manufacturers easily source high-quality ironmongery in a range of finishes that complement both contemporary and traditional door designs .
Primarily for the commercial composite door market , the range takes the hassle out of selecting products that match perfectly by creating suites of the colours which are currently the most popular with consumers .
The range is designed to give the advantages customers already expect from ARRONE ; great quality , durable hardware at the right price point to allow customers to benefit from buying commercial quantities .
Selected ARRONE door handles , knockers , letter plates and numerals are part of the suited range and are now available in seven new finishes including greys , traditional metals , black , and white .
While darker greys and metallic finishes , like stainless-steel effect and polished chrome , continue to be a staple choice , we are also seeing a revival of both black and white hardware on doors across the UK .
