FROM THE EDITOR

‘ PLANS ARE NOTHING , PLANNING IS EVERYTHING ’

» I CAME ACROSS THIS QUOTE BY accident recently and as a self-confessed serial ‘ planner ’ it caught my attention . A week ’ s worth of meals on the fridge door , lists of lists , several diaries ( pen and paper ) and spreadsheets ( on my laptop ). I am a woman who loves to have a plan in place , but when it comes to five-year plans or even 12-month projections – whether personal or professional – I ’ m never sure if they ’ re a good idea for me .
If you make a plan and are happily working towards it but then something beyond your control prevents it from happening , have you failed ? You were doing your part successfully , yet the end result didn ’ t work out , that doesn ’ t necessarily mean defeat . Some of the world ’ s most inspirational inventions were born out of people trying to do something else . On the other hand , people can spend their lives trying to make something work ; only to drive themselves mad or write it off as a waste of time .
If I am working on something and it doesn ’ t turn out , I prefer to ‘ bank ’ the work I ’ ve done along the way rather than discount it and discard it . There have been many times – especially in my marketing career – where ideas for a pitch or proposal ( if they made it that far ) didn ’ t ‘ do the job ’ the first time around but then proved perfect for another product or service , with a bit of tweaking . That may not have been part of the original plan , yet they became of use and merit eventually . In fact , I have notebooks ( pen and paper ) and note files ( on my laptop ) that go back years and I have no doubt that I ’ ll come back to almost all of them sooner or later .
Whilst putting together this magazine , there has been a lot of planning in the background for FIT Show . In my opinion , this exemplifies what I ’ ve been musing on recently . Several re-schedules later , the organisers , exhibitors and perhaps even the visitors have been forced to change their plans over and over due to reasons beyond anyone ’ s control . At no point have any of these people failed – on the contrary , they ’ ve worked harder , got stronger and come back even better . In fact , if our planner – with appointments and meetings for 10-12 May - is anything to go by , it ’ s set to be a massive success .
See you next time , I ’ m planning it already … Gemma

The hole truth : spots filling fast for Clearview charity golf day

» MORE TEAMS AND sponsors have signed up for Clearview Group ’ s inaugural charity golf day .
The event – in aid of GM Fundraising – takes place on Thursday 26th May at Hickleton Golf Club , Doncaster , just a stone ’ s throw away from Clearview and Pro Installer HQ in Barnsley . The day will start with breakfast followed by 18 holes of golf in four-ball teams from across fenestration , then dinner and prize giving , plus a charity auction for ‘ lots ’ of sporting memorabilia and donated prizes .
Since April ’ s magazine , where the event was officially announced in the press , several more teams and sponsors have signed up , joining the early birdies Quickslide , GQA , Hoppe , D & I Windows , Central Windows Systems , Gary Morton , VBH , Edgetech , Made For Trade , CWG Choices , and UPVC Main , alongside the day ’ s main sponsor Chigwell Doors & Windows . Now , Harris & Co , Glazerite , BHI Supplies , Endurance , Eco Footprint Ltd , Deceunink and RRG Group have also signed up as sponsors , with most also opting to enter a team for the round of golf too . Clearview director Steve Sidebottom commented : “ The old adage that the best business meetings are conducted on the golf course may not be true anymore but the sport certainly remains popular in our industry . After the past few years of hardly any events or meet-ups , we are really looking forward to catching up with old friends and if we can do that over a round of golf , even better .

“ The main purpose of the day is , of course , to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship of the event and the auction . There are prizes at stake for teams and individuals but it is all in the name of fun , so we don ’ t want people to be put off playing if they don ’ t feel up to par ! With spaces filling up fast however , we do ask that anyone interested gets in touch as soon as possible to avoid missing out . All that ’ s left to say is we will see you at tee off !”
