Fabricators : trends for 2022

As a market leader in the field of door and window hardware , HOPPE ( UK ) is always developing products to make life easier , safer and more secure . As the end of 2021 approaches , the HOPPE ( UK ) team shares which products and trends they think fabricators should look out for in 2022 .

Even smarter technology
Ged Ryan , CEO of HOPPE ( UK ), thinks consumers will continue to look for automation in their daily lives in 2022 .
“ With smart technology becoming increasingly common in modern homes , and a growing trend for automating everyday items , HOPPE ( UK ) develops products which offer improved user comfort , increased safety , and greater efficiency .
“ The eHandle HandsFree for doors allows homeowners to unlock their front door just by moving their foot , or another object , through a spotlight on the ground .
“ The communication between a small transponder which can be stored in a pocket or bag and a control unit uses stateof-the-art AES encryption providing much greater security than a conventional key .
“ The eHandle HandsFree for doors can tell which side of the door the transponder signal is coming from – ruling out accidental door release from inside . The detection radius for the wireless signal is just one metre , which provides additional protection for the communication .
“ For energy efficiency , the transponder is automatically switched off after 30 seconds in rest position , which means that it stops sending signals . There is a choice of light colours ensuring that the spotlight can be seen well on different surfaces in front of the door .
“ We ’ ve put safety functions in the system to ensure only authorised people can open the door and that it can ’ t be accidentally unlocked . It ’ s a great device and has won several awards for innovation including the Archiproducts Design Awards for Systems , Components and Materials in 2020 .”

Suited products
Jonathan Walker , product manager for ARRONE , a HOPPE brand , is encouraging manufacturers to take a holistic approach to design and not just consider products in isolation :
“ There ’ s a definite trend towards a more consistent look in design so we ’ ve launched a new range decorative finishes for our ARRONE residential door furniture to make it simpler than ever to create an eye-catching suited look , in design as well as colour .
“ Once you ’ ve selected from our range of finishes you can buy colour-matched , complementary products to bring the look together much more easily .
“ Handles , letter plates , knockers , letters and numerals will all be available in both classic finishes - polished brass , polished chrome , white and black – and more contemporary anthracite grey , polished chrome , polished brass , satin chrome and satin nickel / graphite .”
Security and wellbeing John Prosser , marketing services at HOPPE ( UK ), argues that manufacturers need to provide flexible solutions that allow workplaces to meet requirements for ventilation without compromising safety .
“ The law says employers must make sure there ’ s an adequate supply of fresh air in enclosed areas of the workplace . Opening doors and windows to provide

ventilation plays a major part in preventing the spread of Covid-19 but leaving doors and windows open can be a risk to the security of a building and with open windows , there ’ s a health and safety risk .
“ Tilt Before Turn ( TBT ) handles allow windows to be locked , tilted or fully opened depending on the handle position . They can be locked into place to prevent falls from windows but open enough for ventilation making them ideal for anywhere where you need good natural airflow .
“ Our SecuTBT is a step up from the standard TBT technology allowing for these easy to use handles to offer greater security for windows . The SecuTBT handle can be locked with a key to give additional security . Once it has been unlocked with the key , the handle can be moved to the titled position .
“ Although theft rates , particularly in domestic burglary dropped by 20 % due to the pandemic and government restrictions , as people begin to be out of homes and offices more and more , we need to remain mindful of security . Use of good quality and well-designed ironmongery for doors and windows will remain very important , and of course they are a requirement for many insurers .”
