INDUSTRY NEWS

MAJOR INDUSTRY CONFERENCE ADDRESSES SUPPLY CHAIN

» THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF market-leading independent hardware distributor Window Ware has said that sharing supply chain experiences with industry peers has been hugely beneficial .
Sam Nuckey was among a stellar line-up of speakers debating the biggest issues facing the industry at the 2021 Glazing Summit , which took place at Edgbaston Stadium and Conference Centre .
She joined Paul Sullivan , MD of Anglo European , Dean Bradley , head of sales and marketing for Glazpart , and Guy Hubble , MD of RegaLead , on stage for the Conquering the Supply Chain Crisis debate .
Sam said : “ In our industry , we build relationships as a natural part of doing business together , so being able to share experiences , ideas and concerns
surrounding supply issues at the Glazing Summit really helps to feed into those closer working connections .”
“ For Window Ware , the last year and a half has been all about assimilating the information available to us and making quick decisions , and I don ’ t think that ’ s going to change in the short term . Even if the challenges we face in the future are different , the unrelenting pace of change will most likely stay the same . So , as before , we just need to keep our eyes open and use everything we know to continue to make informed decisions that will allow us to exploit opportunities and minimise disruptions . The panel was useful in terms of reinforcing the message that it ’ ll just be more of the same going forward .”
It was the third time Window Ware , has supported the event , which attracted 400-plus leaders from across the glass and glazing industry – the biggest turnout since the Summit ’ s inception in 2018 .
“ The Glazing Summit is a fantastic opportunity to bring business leaders and industry experts together to discuss the current issues ,” added Sam .
“ There ’ s a lot of knowledge in the room and we definitely come away with information that helps support our decision making and the plans that we ’ re implementing as a business , so it ’ s always a key event in our diary .”

BEST SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE

» VEKA PLC IS PROUD TO have won the Best Sustainability Initiative at this year ’ s G21 Awards . VEKA demonstrated its ongoing commitment to sustainability after publishing its second comprehensive CSR , ( corporate social responsibility ), report earlier this year .
Not only is CSR a key strategic objective for the business , but it also inspired VEKA ’ s new positioning statement for 2021 , ‘ We Care | We Act ’ and new mission statement , ‘ We care about our partners , our people & our environment .”
Like many businesses in the last 18 months , VEKA had to remain firmly focused on employee safety , business agility , and the continued supply of product , to protect
the interests of its employees , suppliers , and customers ; For many that would mean that sustainability would take a back seat , yet VEKA has still made progress and reported some impressive energy savings and ways to reduce waste .
Neil Evans , Managing Director at VEKA plc , said :
“ Sustainability is one of the three cornerstones of the VEKA CSR strategy and includes a
commitment to our partners to produce an extensive portfolio of sustainable products , enabled with the introduction of co-extrusion tools throughout our facility . We have been implementing the new tooling and related measures for three years , and we are now able to include recycled material in most our products .
“ We must also acknowledge the huge contribution VEKA
Recycling has made . Also part of the VEKA Group , their state-of-the-art facility is the biggest initiative of its kind in the UK and in 2020 it played its part in VEKA Group producing over 72,000 tonnes of recycled PVCu across Europe . While so many in our industry have been challenged sourcing raw materials to support volumes , we had VEKA Recycling to support us . This has put us in an incredibly strong position . At times this year they have delivered five times the level of product that they were contracted to . With virgin material so hard to source , our lines may well have struggled without this strong partnership .”
