INDUSTRYNEWS FROMTHEEDITOR

Getting in the way , I hope that ’ s ok ...

» WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I WAS OFTEN told I ’ d ‘ make a better door than a window ’, because just as I ( sort of ) stand in front of you right now , there was rarely a moment as a wee girl when I wasn ’ t trying to make a point or start a conversation , and as an only child that usually meant one of my poor parents had to put up with me getting the way of whatever they were doing or watching at any given time . Thirty ( ish ) years later , the conversation I ’ m starting this month is all about doors and windows , so I guess we ’ ve come full circle .
That may have been a bit longwinded ( something else I ’ ve been accused of once or twice in the past ) but when it comes to the ‘ door and window ’ industry we ’ ve got plenty to talk about this issue , and once you delve into the magazine , I ’ m sure you ’ ll agree it will be worth pausing from whatever else you ’ re doing to read all about it . In publishing , the September issue is quite often regarded as one of the most important in the yearly schedule , so it ’ s no surprise that this edition features some of Clearview ’ s most revered ‘ Extra ’ features .
My family ’ s very basic grasp of door and windows and comparing me to one or the other in jest was down to one simple material – glass . This month ’ s Glass & Sealed Units Extra is , I believe , the largest in terms of pagination since I began my role as editor . The specification and application of glass , and the innovation and evolution of it as a material and the processing and manufacture of it is reflected in this , and the space it commands in this issue .
Likewise , the Fire Safety & Security special – which coincides with September ’ s Fire Door Safety Week – serves to highlight the considerations that are critical to homes and premises and their users at every stage of the process from blueprints to building , management and maintenance .
For me , these two features are always particularly interesting and inspiring as , almost more than any other that we include on the calendar , they truly go beyond the personal aesthetic of a customer ’ s choice and practical application of a product and really focus on technology and how changing times necessitate and facilitate invention and innovation .
I hope you agree , and I hope you didn ’ t mind me getting in your way of reading the rest of the magazine for a few minutes .
See you next time , Gemma , Editor

FIT SHOW 2021 MOVES TO MAY 2022

» FIT SHOW ORGANISERS have announced the further postponement of its September 2021 event until Tuesday 10 - Thursday 12 May 2022 . The announcement follows delays to the easing of COVID restrictions across the UK , a rise in UK cases , lack of clarity regarding restrictions for large-scale events and ongoing disruption to international travel .
FIT Show event director Nickie West comments : “ It ’ s always our priority to run a safe and successful event for our audience . The sharp rise in positive cases , coupled with the ongoing ambiguity surrounding what restrictions would need to be in place by September , created too much uncertainty . “ We have worked closely with our stakeholders and the NEC to create a new timeline that we believe is both safer , and provides greater certainty for the market . I remain steadfast in my belief that no other platform can compete with the power of live events when it comes to connecting brands with the market . It has never been an option to flip FIT Show to virtual , it just would not deliver what our market wants and needs - face-to-face interaction , and to see , touch and compare all of the latest products sideby-side .
“ We will , however , be delivering our CPD approved learning programme virtually in September as a key touchpoint in our campaign , to engage with our FIT Show community between now and May .”
The majority of the brands who signed up to exhibit at FIT Show 2021 will move over to the postponed May 2022 timeline . The new dateline will also present a more secure proposition for brands who may have been hesitant to exhibit in September . Following the postponement , FIT Show will maintain its biennial frequency , returning for its scheduled dates in May 2023 onwards .
Nickie added : “ As always , we are committed to running a safe and successful event for the industry when we return in May 2022 . FIT Show will follow Fensterbau , making it the first UK flagship event to reconnect the market .
“ I ’ d like to sincerely thank everyone who has demonstrated such resilience , determination and loyalty during these most challenging times . Your support is what FIT Show is built on . As a team , and a business , we are extremely grateful . We look forward to seeing you all , face-toface , next May .”
