What a difference a year made …
The traditional annual roundup seems a little redundant this time around , as it is difficult to put the last nine months into text when I can barely wrap my head around it .
» SO , AS I SIT DOWN TO WRITE MY FINAL Clearview intro of 2020 , I am a little bit stumped for words , which anyone who knows me will confirm is completely appropriate in a year that has been defined by being ‘ unprecedented ’.
That said , it is almost impossible to put together a ‘ Christmas ’ edition of anything and not use it as an excuse to reflect on the past twelve months . I dug out my December 2019 issue and my letter began with the words ‘ the more things change , the more they stay the same ’. Little did I know at the time that probably things would never be the same for any of us ever again .
If this year has taught us anything it is that while we can try to plan and prepare - and no one can stop me from doing that - the way we react and respond to events , especially those beyond our control , is really what defines us . Similarly I think , and hope , it has made us appreciate all the things in life we take for granted at home and at work , friends and family , our high street , our next door neighbours and our global identity .
They used to say the only thing sure in life is death and taxes - this past few years of politics and now a pandemic - makes me look forward to my tax return for some light relief ! But amidst all the chaos there is some calm and comfort . There is still certainty in the world and again , at Christmas , whoever and wherever we are and however we celebrate it , it can still be a time for joy and hope .
Doing whatever we can when everything else seems to be falling apart , making the most of the time we have with family and friends , finding new solutions to keep businesses going and even starting up new ventures and creating new adventures in the face of adversity , but most importantly , looking forward to a better and brighter future are all what makes us human .
And I for one am looking forward to the new year and the next Clearview , in fact we ’ re planning and preparing it already ( see I said you can ’ t stop us ). All the best for the holiday season from everyone in the Clearview team , and we will see you in 2021 .

That ’ s a wrap
As 2020 draws to a close , Clearview Group - with the help of VEKA Recycling - takes steps towards a more sustainable future ; switching to recyclable wrappers for its printed subscription magazine .
» CLEARVIEW MAGAZINE has teamed up with VEKA Recycling on a range of sustainable wrappers for its postal magazines . For the past several years , Clearview - alongside with its sister publications - have been available online every month , in addition to weekly or fortnightly e-newsletters , email updates , and of course , social media platforms .
Extensive research has shown that readers of Clearview , PRO Installer , and The Locksmith Journal ; which are available through subscription ( or to pick up at trade counters in the case of ‘ newspaper ’ PRO Installer but also sent out to a personalised mailing list ), still prefer , in the majority , to read a physical copy of the magazine .
And , as these are delivered though the postal system ; the team have been working hard to find a sustainable alternative to the cellophane wrapper that has previously been used to protect the paper magazines . Now , in an industry pioneering collaboration VEKA Recycling will be the first brand to put their name to three months ’ of the new wrappers , as its MD Simon Scholes explains :
“ VEKA Recycling is delighted to be the first company to partner with Clearview on their new sustainable packaging initiative . Whether it ’ s finding a better alternative for the disposable plastic wrapping on thousands of magazines , or investing in better ways to recycle thousands old PVCu window frames , as an industry there is always more we
can do to improve our processes and make what we do more sustainable . We hope the shift Clearview has made is a sign of more positive changes to come .”
Clearview Director Steve Sidebottom adds : “ We have been looking to move to more sustainable options for Clearview magazine , plus the timing aligns well with the government ’ s ‘ Green Industrial Revolution ’. Whilst our online platforms are popular , our research shows that readers and customers emphatically want to see a printed version of Clearview , so this is a first important step on our sustainability journey , and will be considering options from our printers for both PRO Installer and The Locksmith Journal , as combined annual copies exceed 500,000 magazines .”
