Why this month ’ s Clearview had us in tiers .
» THE OLD ADAGE MAY SAY ‘ remember , remember the 5th of November ’, but I doubt any of us will forget 2020 in a hurry , as much as we ’ d like to . Whether you ’ re currently in a medium , high , or very high locale , locked down , self isolating , social distancing ( or anti-social distancing ), or revelling in the rule of six , I ’ m holding back the tiers and re-using them for my own purposes ( and as a Lancastrian locked in , there ’ s not a lot else to do at the moment so bear with me …)
Tier one in this month ’ s magazine is our ‘ bread and butter ’ news and features ; carefully and considerately collated into nice neat features to educate and entertain . Each month we try and bring the best business news , the most insightful industry information , window and door design and development , gas about glass and glazing , and make hardware easy when it comes to safety and security . We know that Clearview is read by fabricators and fitters , specifiers and suppliers , manufacturing to marketing ; so from our installer support to our director of the month , our ‘ regular reads ’ are there for everyone to enjoy .
Tier two for November news is our extra special features that we ’ ve expanded and extended , to include case studies , installation inspiration , expert advice , comment and content from specific sectors . This month we have 15 pages all about Aluminium . From specification to application , the advantages of this high-profile profile - both in appearance and performance - has seen its popularity soar over recent years , making it no longer a commercial-only material for hospitals , hotels , schools and shops , but top of the shopping list of many-a-homeowner .
The second section of this month ’ s tier two is machinery . We wouldn ’ t get far in fenestration without fabrication or manufacture , so from the smallest screw to palatial panels , we ask the machinery questions of who is buying what , where is it , why do they need it , and how is it helping the supply chain ? Sticking to the all-important rule of six , we ’ ve six pages on the subject .
Last but by no means least : tier three . Exclusive interviews from across the industry which address new appointments , age-old questions , day-to-day business and developing issues . November ’ s Clearview includes a new managing director at Origin , Conservatory Outlet ’ s ‘ woman in industry ’, a director of the month from HOPPE ( UK ), plus ‘ Hollywood ’ s choice of hardware ’, that ’ s Carlisle Brass , whose Art Deco lever has starred alongside Dame Judi Dench and Sir Kenneth Branagh , to name a few . So really , they ’ ve been happy tiers this month . See you next time ,

TACKLING COVID-19 WORKPLACE CHALLENGES HEAD-ON FOR DISABLED WORKFORCE
» A BIRMINGHAM WINDOW and door manufacturer has been making sure its disabled employees have been as protected as they possibly can during their return to work after the Covid-19 lockdown .
Shelforce employs some of the city ’ s most vulnerable people , with 75 % of its workforce disabled , and the Covid-19 pandemic has been particularly hard on those who rely on their daily work at its factory in Erdington .
But the company is tackling the challenge head-on to ensure its team are in a safe environment as they slowly get back to full capacity .
Safe working practices have been introduced in the factory to help with social distancing , as well as reduced operating hours for staff . And the most vulnerable are being allowed to start and leave earlier so they will not be on public transport at rush hour . They are also finishing earlier on a Friday .
Shelforce ’ s Business Manager Howard Trotter explained : “ The lockdown has been hugely challenging for us all , but it has impacted disabled people even more . We have staff who are autistic , deaf , visually impaired and suffer from cerebral palsy and Shelforce plays such a huge role in their lives that it was tough for them when they couldn ’ t do the job they love .
“ It was very important to keep in touch with them as much as we could during lockdown and to have everything in place so they could work safely . As they can ’ t drive , they rely heavily on public transport so we have tried to minimise any risk as much as we can so they can get to work safely .
“ It ’ s been a challenge , but our team overcome bigger obstacles every day than many of us will face in a year and that toughness and a determination has allowed them to hit the ground running since they have come back .”
Specialising in providing highquality PVCu and aluminium products to local authority building projects , Shelforce is Birmingham City Council ’ s chosen manufacturer of choice . Earlier this year the company launched its new fully compliant Fireshel 30-minute fire , smoke , and security resistant door .
