August’s Director of the Month is Sunny
Singh Attlas from 6 Day Doors. In this
exclusive interview he discusses the
aluminium business venture that started
this year, never ending piles of paperwork,
and how to ‘not’ unwind in his spare
time with his favourite football team.
When did you start
the company?
We created 6 Day Doors
earlier this year when we
identified a need for quality
aluminium bifold doors to be
manufactured and supplied very
quickly. 6 Day Doors is part
of the Chigwell Group which
includes companies such and
Chigwell Construction, Chigwell
Window Centre and Chigwell
Conservatories.
Describe your working day...
I get into the office around
7.00am and go through all the
email quotes and other trade
enquiries we have received. The
rest of the day is taken up with
meetings with new and existing
customers, liaising with the heads
of all the departments as well as
brainstorming sessions to look at
areas where we can expand the
business as well as new product
development.
What is your
workspace like?
My workspace is pretty tidy,
but my desk is full of piles of
paperwork which never seem to
get any smaller.
First thing you do when
you get to your desk?
The first thing I do when I
arrive at my desk is to go through
a mountain of ‘to dos’ so I can
keep track of everything that
needs to get done before the
phone starts ringing.
Most useful business tool?
I use WhatsApp most
frequently for messaging and
receiving photos from the fitters
as well getting quote requests etc.
Best business decision
in your current role?
Definitely the decision to make
our own profile has been a huge
success. It was a big investment in
the machinery but we are already
seeing the rewards. We have
developed our own bifold door
profile called Ezifold. It’s proved
very popular and is paving the
way for a number of other new
products.
Favourite role
models and why?
My fellow directors Dean
Floyd and Ammo Singh have
been great role models for me
not only because of their business
knowledge but on a personal level
as well.
How do you unwind?
I love spending time with my
young family. Before lockdown
we used to spend days out
together and I look forward
to doing more of that when
lockdown is properly over. I am
also a huge Tottenham supporter
and season ticket holder. We go to
a lot of the home games; doesn’t
always help me to unwind due to
their recent form, but I do enjoy
being with the other directors
in the new stadium which is
fantastic.
Where most fabricators offer aluminium bi-folds with lead times
of two to three weeks if not longer, 6 Day Doors does ‘exactly
what it says on the tin’; providing them in just six days – and if it
doesn’t, your next order is half-price.

The obvious question of course is how have 6 Day Doors
managed to commit to such a short lead time?
“The truth is, there is no big secret,” Sunny explains. “Frankly, I
think the industry has got used to having to wait nearly three
weeks for aluminium doors, and so no-one’s felt the need to
invest and speed that process up.
“What we’ve done is simple. Using the resources and expertise
of the wider Chigwell Group, we’ve acquired some cutting-edge
machinery and manned it with some experienced and highly
motivated fabricators. It’s certainly not easy, but it’s not hugely
complex either – if you’ve got the willpower to do it, it can be
done.
