air, it is best to use a cold inflation pressure.
A cold inflation pressure is the tire pressure
on a vehicle that has not been moving or
moving less than one mile and out of the sun
for at least an hour. It is not recommended
to check the tire pressures when the tires
are hot. When a tire is driven over the mile
mark it is considered hot, and tire pressures
are normally increased at this point. Tires
may increase in pressure over the cold
specification when hot. Never bleed air from
a hot tire. A hot tire that is below a known
set cold psi or the cold psi specification,
could be significantly low and may need to
be filled. At least once a month check all the
tires with a gauge. Always apply the same
air pressure for every tire unless otherwise
specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Rotating tires is another important part
of tire maintenance. Rotate the tires every
5,000 miles unless otherwise suggested by
the vehicle or tire manufacturer. Refer to
the owner’s manual or allow a professional
service center to perform the proper rotation
method for the specific vehicle. Proper tire
inflation and maintenance are critical to a
vehicle’s performance and helps keep you
and your passengers safe.
Engine oil needs to be checked on a daily
basis. With the engine off and vehicle is
on level ground, pull the dipstick out and
wipe it with a clean towel. Put the dipstick
back in the tube, making sure it seats all
the way in the tube. Pull it out once again
and look at the level on the stick. If the oil
level is between the low and full marks it is
considered an acceptable level for operation.
If the oil level appears to be at or below the
low mark, then oil needs to be added to the
crankcase filler tube. Always be careful not
to overfill engine oil. Overfilling engine oil
can be more harmful than low engine oil.
Engine oil and filter needs to be changed
every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. Newer
vehicle owners are now being instructed to
change engine oil every 5,000 miles or every
5 months. If the carpet company chooses
to allow a service center to perform the
oil change it is of utmost importance to
check the oil level before leaving the service
center and make certain the oil level on the
dipstick is not above the full mark. If the
oil level is above the full mark oil must be
drained adequately to obtain the proper level.
The owner of the vehicle must stand their
ground on this matter and not allow ignorant
service people to push them out the door
as many service centers do. This matter is
detrimental and must not be ignored. Serious
harm to the engine and loss of revenue upon
correction can occur if the engine oil is filled
too high.
Engine coolant / anti-freeze levels in
the reservoir should be checked when the
engine is cold once a week. Each vehicle
has different reservoir markers. Refer to
the owner’s manual of your vehicle for the
