The association also awarded the 2023 Hall of Fame designation to another professional who has made a long-term and significant contribution to the industry , Jeff Ice , the former Managing Director of Risk Strategies Company . Jeff ’ s son Bryan presented him with the award . This is the first time in the history of the award that this award is being presented to someone who is not a courier .
In accepting the award Jeff said , “ This is just unbelievable . I couldn ’ t have imagined when I left a general insurance career 30 years ago to concentrate on this industry that I ’ d be standing here . I just love this industry . I have been grateful to be able to attend these conferences over the years , but being up here is a very different experience . You can ’ t imagine what this looks like from up here ! After the Business Meeting , the educational portion of the conference began with a keynote from Anthony C . Smith , Chief Economist , Freightwaves . It was sponsored by Key Software Systems . His presentation , “ Freightonoics : Today , Tomorrow and Beyond ” showcased the opportunities offered by today ’ s rollercoaster economic conditions . “ What I recommend for dealing with today ’ s market is to check your KPIs and look for the opportunities that are out there ,” Smith said . “ There are always going to be opportunities . This is the moment to utilize data to know how to seize them and to operate efficiently .”
Risk Management
An emphasis on safety , a commitment to making the best use of technology and being honest with your insurance broker were some of the strategies suggested by a panel of insurance professionals in the conference ’ s first panel . The overall theme was developing strategies to cope with rising insurance costs . “ Risk Management : Tips , Tricks and Turmoil ” featured Gayle Czeizler , Senior Area Vice President , AJ Gallagher ; Tanner Owens , President / CEO , CUI Agency ; Bryan Paulozzi , Vice President , Transportation , Risk Strategies Company ; David Slisz , Assistant Vice President , National Interstate Insurance Company and Mark Tuchmann , CEO , TIP National . The panel was moderated by Peter Schlactus , a former insurance executive who now heads the Association for Delivery Drivers .
