Tile Heritage Foundation Presents Symposium in Santa Barbara BY ROBERTA WAGNER F or any aspiring tile maker, attendance at a Tile Heritage Symposium is a must. It brings together tile collectors, historians, distributors, enthusiasts, makers and artists to create an amalgam of opportunities and a repository of information about this ancient ceramic tradition. The location of each year’s symposium is selected so that tiles and tile traditions of the area can be 1 showcased . Santa Barbara, California is known for the tiles that grace the buildings, walls, and even bus stops of the city, offering a perfect setting for this year’s symposium. The four-day ’96 event, with more than 150 attending (and numerous waitlisted), opened on the evening of October 15 with a reception at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.
