Dave
When considering all the surviving
marked pieces, one potter whose life
was invested in the manufacture of
ware stands out, not only because of
his monumental works, but even more
because of his words. That potter was a
slave named Dave.
Oral tradition states that Dave was
born into the Landrum family in 1780.
Tradition maintains he was trained as a
typesetter, a radical act by Dr. Abner
Landrum, who was not only the
founder of Pottersville, but also the
publisher of a Pottersville newspaper,
The Edgefield Hive.
