When skateboarding exploded in the mid-1970s , Jim Goodrich was right in the middle of it . After a wipeout landed him on the sidelines , he picked up a camera and started taking pictures of his friends in action . His snapshots captured the world ’ s best skaters who were reinventing the sport with each new trick . The style on display in Jim ’ s photographs epitomized the California skateboarding scene and inspired a generation to join this cultural movement .
