MY ADIDAS ( 1986 )
This was the summer of 1986 . I had just joined the Raising Hell tour in Florida on a whim . I packed up my Frozade cart and said , “ Fuck this ,” after I saw a two-page spread in USA Today promoting the tour with Run DMC , LL Cool J , Whoodini , and the Beasties . I flew down and knocked on the back of the Tampa Dome and Ad-Rock came out and got me . He was like , “ Wow , what are you doing here ?” and I was like , “ I was in the neighborhood .”
A couple nights later we were in New Orleans and I remember walking down Bourbon Street alongside Run DMC and the hometown kids were just going fucking bananas ! They were crowding the entire street as they walked through . It was like a slowmoving procession . That was quite a night . This is a kid that came backstage . The song My Adidas was big . I got that shot with my little doinkster . I ’ m lucky , man . A lot of the shots I took are still paying my bills thirty years later .
