3. Tiered
Tiered dresses are back, and they’re better than ever! Dozens of designers filled their runways with ruffles, fringe, chiffon, and more in varying levels. Fendi in particular favored this trend with layers of organza increasing in color intensity. Like the 1960s, however, the dresses you’ll see will likely not be following the bodycon fad that’s become popular over the last few years. Much of the tiered dresses and gowns this season either flow out in a triangular fashion, or come straight down–eliminating accentuated hips and curves. Perhaps fashion houses are reinventing the Twiggy look?
4. Cold Summer Nights
In case you didn’t already get the idea, clothing is moving slowly (or not so slowly!) back towards a looser fit. Even Versace, known for its sexy rocker chic looks, dabbled in the trend with a few bulky denim and leather pieces. Along with the “fur brand” Fendi pioneering the idea that fur is for all seasons, the appearance of fur overcoats in Prada’s collection, mixed with the variety of jackets seen in dozens of more brands, designers are dressing their clientele with the chillier evenings in mind. Although summer isn’t always shine, these houses have found a way for you to dazzle without the sun.
5. Bejeweled
For those of you who loved sequins, rhinestones, and beads as a child, 2014’s a great year for you. One of the trends that’s popped up in multiple collections is encrusting clothing with beads and gems. The embellishments add texture to clothing and aid in sculpting designs or eye-catching graphics. With red carpet brands such as Julien Macdonald regularly using this in his dresses and gowns, you’ll likely see a lot of this on red carpets to come.
