ESL for Families (Includes students eligible for ORI B - Level 2) The Carlos Rosario School partners with public schools in Washington, DC to provide tuition-free English classes to parents. Students will learn basic English grammar, speaking, and listening skills, while acquiring the skills and resources to support their children’s academic success. Classes are held at the following locations: Center City-Petworth PCS 510 Webster St. NW Monday-Thursday 5:30pm-8:30pm Capital City PCS 100 Peabody Street, NW Monday-Thursday 5:00pm-8:00pm Oyster Elementary School 2801 Calvert St. NW Monday-Thursday 9:00am-12:00pm Truesdell Elementary School 800 Ingraham Street, NW Monday-Thursday 9:00am-12:00pm ESL 4 and 5 Hospitality Location: Harvard Street Campus Students learn how to provide great customer service, understand workplace rights and policies, and explore jobs in the service industry: restaurants, hotels, and other food-service providers. Students gain reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar skills appropriate to their level. Field trips to museums, galleries, theaters, etc., will allow students to use their English out of the classroom and to explore new arts spaces. Location: Sonia Gutierrez Campus Requirements: - English language placement test The high intermediate ESL level classes provide the training necessary to speak, listen, read, and write to understand English in real life, school, and work situations. Higher Level English Classes ESL 6-8 Life Skills Requirements: - English language placement test Intermediate Level English Classes ESL 4 and 5 Health Location: Harvard Street Campus Vocabulary Throughout this course, students learn how to navigate the healthcare system by living a healthy lifestyle, talking to healthcare professionals, and exploring jobs in that field. Students gain reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar skills appropriate to their level. Location: Sonia Gutierrez Campus This class is designed for students who developed an advanced level of English and want to improve their vocabulary. Learning strategies are applied to concrete communicative tasks, such as debates, presentations, and group problem-solving activities.
