A SCIENTIFIC LOOK INTO THE RESURRECTION OF EXTINCT SPECIES
I
n the 1993 Spielberg film Jurassic
Park – based on the novel by
Michael Crighton of the same
name – scientists were able to
clone dinosaurs by using the DNA
that was preserved in insects. This
led to the creation of an entire park of
living dinosaurs named – yup, you
guessed it – Jurassic Park. In this film,
dozens of several species of dinosaurs
were created in order to profit from an
expensive park that rich people would
be dying to go to. Then everything went
wrong, the dinosaurs escaped, etc. etc.
etc.
The idea of dinosaur cloning
in the film was that there were some
prehistoric insects that after feeding on

tree resin. This led to the preservation
of complete strandsof dinosaur DNA
with which scientists were able to clone
living, breathing dinosaurs.
