PAGE 3 St. John’s KickOff By Lynn Butterbrodt Associate Pastor September marks the month when fall programming kicks off at St. John’s UCC and our schedule returns to “normal.” Sunday morning worship will be at 10:15 on September 1st and we will celebrate the sacraments of baptism and communion that day. Church offices will be closed on Labor Day, September 2nd. Our Wednesday evening activities for youth begin on September 4th. 1st through 7th graders will gather after school until 5:30, and 8th grade confirmation will be at 7:00 pm. Sunday, September 8th is the day known as “Sundae Sunday” at our church. Sunday School begins at 9:00 that day with opening devotions in the sanctuary. During 10:15 worship we will present 3rd graders with Bibles, introduce the 8th grade confirmands, bless our Sunday School teachers, and mor e! Following worship we’ll have ice cream sundaes during fellowship time. A registration form for youth activities is included in this newsletter. Members and guests are welcome to attend! We just need a form for everyone who comes. Please don’t hesitate to call the church office if you have any questions. 452-3022. On September 25th at 7:00 pm we will have a special presentation by UCC missionary, Bruce VanVoorhies. Everyone is invited to attend this event, which promises to expand our thinking beyond our city limits! Please see the advertisement for our fall dinner to be held on October 6th. “The Feast” will be held after worship on World Communion Sunday, and again, everyone is invited and welcome to come. We will be receiving new members into our congregation in the near future. If you are interested in joining St. John’s, please give us a call and we’ll set up a time to talk. The North Cedar Clergy churches are gathering the following items to be shared with students: pencils, crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, and Kleenex. If you’d like to donate any of these items, please leave them in a food pantry box or drop them off in the church office. We’ll see that they get to the school. Thank you! Sunday School is for 3 year olds through 7 th grade. There is an 8th grade confirmation class, high school fellowship, and adult Sunday School class. Complete one form per family. We will walk or transport students to the church unless you indicate an alternate plan for your child/ren. My child/ren has/have permission to ride or walk from the North Cedar Middle School to St. John’s UCC with the volunteer in charge of transportation on Wednesdays. I agree to inform the church if my child/ren will not be attending the gathering at St. John’s on a given Wednesday.
