The Edna Zybell Memorial Library Board has petitioned to ask the residents of the City of Clarence to levy a real estate tax of up to $0.27 per $1,000 of taxable value for support of a new public library. The current total taxable valuation for the 2013/2014 fiscal year for the City of Clarence is $27,606,062. A levy of $0.27 would generate $7,453.64 for the library per fiscal year to help with upkeep, maintenance and other costs of the new library not currently covered through normal budgeting. For example: If your house and land is assessed at $108,590 and your Taxable Value is $57,354, this is how to figure the additional amount of the levy and how it would affect your tax bill. First find your Taxable Value on your tax bill and multiply that amount by $0.27. Second, divide that amount by $1,000. In the example above $57,354x0.27/1000 = $15.48. This would mean your tax bill would increase by $15 per year or an additional $7.50 per half. To put this amount in perspective - In the above example, that is 15 cups of coffee or candy bars per year, or 10 bottles of soda per year. You can rent a movie for a day for $3.99 OR you can borrow one for a week from the library for free. If you only borrow four movies in a year from the library, you have recouped your share of the tax levy. The Edna Zybell Memorial Library would appreciate your support!
