So What Else is CAEDG Up To These Days?
Since its revitalization in the spring of 2016, the Clarence Area Economic Development Group
has reengaged in building economic development through community action. Beginning with
small projects such as the east end sign board updates, weed pulling in the downtown district,
organizing garage sale day and overseeing repainting of the downtown light poles, the
community has seen results.
Branching out from those projects, the Best of Clarence volunteer recognition dinner was held in
the fall, honoring all Clarence volunteers past and present. The group partnered with the North
Cedar Cheerleaders in bringing back a Clarence tradition, painting the storefront windows for
Homecoming. The first ever Clarence Trunk or Treat was a raving success, filling the parking lot
at the Clarence Assisted Living. Throughout the year the CAEDG has been on hand to present
new businesses with their first dollar and ribbon cutting. The culmination of 2016 activities was
the rejuvenation of a long Clarence tradition, the Clarence Christmas Walk. Neighbors, families
and friends filled the streets of the Clarence business district, enjoying hayrides, hot cocoa, and
community pride.
Moving into 2017 the CAEDG began the process of investigating the Main Street Iowa program,
but that hasn’t slowed the group’s progress toward even bigger projects and progress. The Clar-
ence Area Farmers’ Market will begin on June 5, in the grassy lot north of the old creamery
building. Kinion Auto has generously offered use of their land for this endeavor. The CAEDG is
also partnering with Kinion to repaint the creamery building, and restore the original lettered
signage. In addition, the CAEDG collaborated with the Clarence Nursing Home to provide prizes
for their annual Easter Egg Hunt. Planning and coordinating for this year’s Garage Sale Day is
also underway.
