Aveiro conference achievements We brought together local organisations, our consortium partners and members of our international advisory board at our third annual conference in Aveiro, Portugal in April 2019. Broad audiences At our well-attended public conference, we heard from teenagers who build bikes in their school, watched videos made with older residents, explored best practices in each of the local municipalities and shared our own findings from ClairCity. The event, held at the Edifício da Capitania in the centre of Aveiro, was an opportunity to hear from local and international academics, health practitioners, politicians, local authorities and community organisations on the local and national situation in Portugal. Discussion on opportunities and cultures around cycling featured strongly, alongside deeper understandings of how the local climatic and geographical conditions affect air pollution levels across the region. Visiting the Aviero Region Conference themes Our public conference was titled “Connected communities: Improving air quality and carbon emissions to protect public health,” but these themes were equally present in the consortium meeting we held before the conference. In the last year of our project we are making sure we fully deliver innovation in approaches to air quality and carbon. ClairCity conference team 2019 Infographics for all A crucial part of ClairCity is involving citizens in air quality and carbon emissions discussions. With clear views on how they would like to see their city in the future, many people are also keen to know more about air pollution, where it comes from and the health impacts it causes. Working with graphic designers we have created infographics that community groups, schools, local authorities, NGOs and institutes are using to help explain and understand air pollution. 3 Our designs are available in English, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Polish - all with the same information that features in the design on the next page. The designs focus on three key elements: health impacts; causes of air pollution and solutions to poor air quality in urban areas.
