Recent events in Europe and beyond
remind us how terrorism can strike at
the heart of everyday life and have a
devastating impact.
The UK Government’s Counter Terrorism
strategy Prevent is aimed at promoting
community cohesion and preventing
vulnerable individuals from falling prey to
extremists with intent to radicalise them,
and put them in harm’s way.
Public authorities including the Council,
have a number of statutory duties under
Prevent. This includes a requirement
to put in place various systems to
protect and support individuals at risk
of extremism, similar to those in place
already to protect vulnerable children and
adults.

The Scottish Parliamentary Election takes place on 5 May, so
time is running out to register to vote.
For the first time, 16 year olds will be entitled to vote in a
Scottish Parliamentary election - and it couldn’t be easier to
register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Poll cards will be issued on
14 March, if you do not
receive one you should

immediately. The last date
to register for the election
is Monday 18 April 2016.
