identity and belonging, strengthens our community, and deepens our support for the State of Israel. The Israel Center allows us to bring that work together in a more intentional and impactful way.”
In recent months, significant progress has been made to bring
this vision into clearer focus. A dedicated committee has been established to guide the Israel Center’ s direction, bringing together lay leaders and community members with a shared commitment to Israel engagement. Alongside this, a formal charter has been developed, outlining the Center’ s purpose, priorities,

and long-term goals. Leadership has also taken shape with the appointment of Risa Miller, past President of Federation, as Chair of the Israel Center. Risa brings a deep connection to Israel and a strong history of involvement in Jewish communal life. Her leadership will help ensure that the Israel Center remains thoughtful in its approach, responsive to community needs, and grounded in meaningful engagement.
At its core, the Israel Center builds on the strong foundation that already exists within Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. Programs such as the Unpacking Israel: Masterclass Series, community-wide Yom HaZikaron and Yom Ha’ atzmaut observances, Israel travel experiences, and the Partnership2Gether connection with Hadera all reflect a longstanding commitment to Israel engagement. The Israel Center brings these efforts together under a more intentional and cohesive vision, while creating space for new opportunities to emerge.

the lasting impact of legacy giving. Through his generous gift, Irving Bienstock’ s legacy is helping to ensure that this work continues to grow and evolve well into the future. Legacy giving does more than support current programs— these gifts create the foundation for future growth, allowing Federation to invest in initiatives that will shape the community for years to come. Through legacy giving, donors leave behind more than a contribution; they leave a vision for what Jewish life in Charlotte can continue to become.
Looking ahead, the Israel Center will continue to expand how our community engages with Israel through education, cultural experiences, and shared conversations. This includes opportunities for learners of all ages, support for educators and families, and programs that explore Israel through its people, culture, and evolving story.

a framework for meaningful engagement. It is a place for learning, for dialogue, and for strengthening the bonds that connect our community to Israel and to one another. It will be financially sustained through the Sue Worrel Israel Center Endowment Fund.
This recent progress marks an important step forward, made possible by strong leadership, thoughtful planning, and the generosity of those who believe in the importance of this work. As the Israel Center continues to grow, it will play a central role in shaping how our community connects with Israel for years to come.
