In the spring of 1840, James and Lucretia both were named delegates from Pennsylvania to the worlds’ Anti-Slavery Convention that was to be held in London in June. This all-male convention’s first act of business was to discuss the female delegate’s admission into the convention. 90% of the delegates said that the women were not going to be allowed admission, but could be as visitors. James soon died in 1868 and Lucretia went on and opened the college that both Lucretia and James had planned to be coeducational four years before his death in 1864. Lucretia Mott was elected the president of the Pennsylvania Peace Society, a title she kept until death. She was surrounded by her remaining children and grandchildren and died at the age of 85.
