Chaudhary S. et al. Civil Insight (2019) 21-28 4) Conclusions The forest mapping conducted in Roshi and Melamchi watersheds brings to light the dire need to conserve the existing forest resources of the country. Particularly, from this study and analysis, the following major conclusions are drawn: x x Due to different human activities, the area of forest in the country is decreasing, the visible example for which, as obtained from this forest mapping, is a decrement from 53% to 45% for Melamchi watershed, and down to 50% from 55% for Roshi watershed. The extent of agricultural land is increasing. Increments to 20% from 16% for Melamchi watershed and that to 44% from 40% for Roshi watershed are evident to this finding. Recommendations x x There is an urgent need to conserve the natural forests by implementing stringent conservation measures such as scientific management and participatory forest management. Forest landscape restoration can improve both the water quality and quantity on a large and relatively long-term scale. References ArcGIS (Version 10.6.1) [Computer software]. (2018).
